FTM 16 week doctor's appointment concern

I'm FTM and just had my 16 week check up. After hearing the baby's heartbeat with the nurse and all the doctor came in asked if I had any questions. She answered them and told me it was nice to meet me leaving the room. No checking the development with measuring my stomach or anything. Should I be concerned?

  • I didn't have my stomach measured either, it was a super fast 3minute appointment since I didn't have any questions. My first measurement will be at 20 weeks. I wouldn't worry!
  • Yup, me too! Pee on a stick, hear the heart beat, any questions... Nope... Off I go. 10min max. Don't worry, the ultrasounds will tell you and them more.
  • My doctor is that way also. She hasn't told me the next time I will see my baby. I saw the baby once at my 12 week appointment. Hasnt talked to me about a birth plan or anything of the sort. Just checks on the heartbeat and asks how I feel. I figured it was common to focus on mom and see how we are feeling.

That is pretty normal for 16 weeks ... Expect more at 20!

  • I'm getting annoyed with my doctor too. Just seems so cold at every appointment. I have no clue what I am doing or what to expect each time I go in. Atleast they let you hear the heart beat, mine has just been fuzzy doppler ultrasounds that take 1 minute. I'm always so star struck that I forget all my concerns when I see my baby alive and well.
  • I had my 16 week appointment on Friday and he didn't measure me cause he said I'm still too small. I'm not small by any means (I'm overweight) but my "bump" isn't big enough to be measured yet.
  • My doctor said she doesn't start measuring until after our 20-week appointment (and until that point they assume the baby is underneath the belly button still and use that as a guide). At my 16-week appointment she just used the Doppler to listen to the heartbeat, I did the standard pee test, and I was on my way! She asked if I had any questions and I asked a few, but that's about it! My next appointment at 20 weeks will be more in depth since it's the anatomy scan, but I'm thankful for the shorter appointments in between the bigger ones, especially once I start going more often!
  • Heartbeat with Doppler, step on scale, blood pressure taken. Any questions? Bye! That's how mine went! My ob is not very warm either, I'll be trying a midwife for my next appointment and see if I feel more taken care of by her.
  • My 17 wk checkup was: Weight, blood pressure, any questions ? Measured my uterus (17cm), listened to baby's heart beat, filled out blood work paperwork for gestational diabetes scan and chromosomal abnormalities post- testing, that's it !
