Baby Shower Hostess Gift

Two part question ...
1) What is the appropriate dollar amount to spend on the gift for the shower hostess ? I was just planning on a $25 gift card for dinner somewhere and some flowers but my mom says it needs to be $50.
2) My mom's friend Kathy is throwing the shower at her house and providing all of the food, decor, etc. But Kathy's sister is coming in town to help out. My mom is telling me i need to also get a gift for Kathys sister but she's not the hostess so i don't know why I'd need to give her a hostess gift?? Need some advice please ! TIA

    I sent the 3 friends that threw my shower flowers and they loved it.

    I've never heard gift being mandatory let alone with a dollar amount to it!! It's a nice gesture that shouldn't be expected and shouldn't have to have a big price tag. That said, We made a gift basket for my mother in law who hosted with a bottle of crown royal (We're military and don't visit home often, so when we do she likes to have a drink with my hubby, and she likes to drink in general) with crown royal glasses filled with nice choclates and had a case of coke to go with it. She really appreciated the gift.

    I'm planning to get my 3 hostesses each a bottle of their favorite wines ranging from $10.00-$20.00 each. I planned to get cute labels for the bottles but my procrastination got me again and I'm out of time. So I'll have to find a cute bag to put them in. Planning to pick up the bottles tomorrow so I don't run out of time, again!

    We did the same thing as above. I had 4 shower hosts, and we got each a bottle of wine with a custom label, and put them in cute wine bags. I'll also probably send them nicer Thank You cards then the small ones I've been sending out for gifts.

    Baking is my thing and I made a cookie bouquet with cookies I made and decorated with royal icing for the gals that hosted my shower. This time I don't know if I'm going to have the energy - it's different with a toddler!
