What's the norm?

So I'm not sure if this is normal or not but I am 35w6d and have not lost my mucus plug yet. I haven't really had Braxton hicks at all and have had a fairly smooth pregnancy (knock on wood) with not many aches or pains to complain about. My feet have swollen recently but that's about it. Baby hasn't dropped extremely or anything yet. I realize I still technically have 4 more weeks until our due date of May 7th and I'm probably just getting anxious and excited to meet our baby girl but when should all this start happening?

  • I'm 36w4d and I really haven't had any symptoms the entire pregnancy. I haven't had any swelling, even with me still working on my feet. I haven't had any Braxton hicks either. But I have just this week lost part of my plug. I'm not really sure where the baby is, whether he has dropped or not. But I'm really not worried. I'm sure it'll happen when it's time. We still have quite a bit of time til our due dates.
  • Lots of people never even notice if they loose the plug.
  • All of these things might happen the day before you go into labor. You could be waiting 5 more weeks. Ask your doctor about more details at your next appointment. I didn't have any BH at all last pregnancy. Lost my mucus plug the day before my son came, and he dropped around 37 weeks.

  • I'm 36 weeks tomorrow. No BH to speak about, mucus plug is still plugging, & I don't think he's dropped. I figure it will all happen when it happens!
  • A lot of first time moms do not ever notice Braxton hicks. With my first I never lost my mucus plug, had bloody show, or any of those "signs" of labor. I thought I was going to be pregnant forever. Good news, even though you may feel like your never going to have this baby, you will. I went from no contractions and not even being dialated to full blown labor and having my baby in 7 hrs. Everyone is so different and each pregnancy/labor can be so different too. This pregnancy has been nothing like my first. Don't stress momma, what is normal for some isn't for everyone. It can happen today or the day you go in labor.
  • Thanks ladies :) makes me feel a little better about it all. I'm so anxious I feel like I'm sitting at a bus stop waiting for a bus that is going 2mph lol I guess as my grandma always told me a watch pot never boils so I will try and just relax and enjoy the last few weeks of just DH and myself. It's so hard though! I want to see what our precious bundle looks like :) I hope everyone else's pregnancies are going well too. For now I will just enjoy feeling my little gymnast move :)
  • I didn't have any labor symptoms with my son. I just went to the bathroom and *boom* I lost my whole plug and my water broke. He came 9 days early and was totally chilling until that moment. I think I was only 1 cm at that point also. Don't let it stress you. Eventually the baby will come out one way or another.

  • No labor symptoms with my first until i hit the 41w 6d mark. Then the dogs were acting crazy around me and I started having contractions that lasted until baby was born :) I'm at 35w now and i THINK i lost my mucus plug...but that's as far as it goes.
  • I didn't notice losing mine with my first, I had him at 39 weeks
  • With my first, my water broke at 1am the day I turned 39 weeks. I never lost my mucous plug before that. I mean, I'm sure I lost it at some point during delivery, but it was never pointed out to me. Then again, why would they? We lose a LOT of fluids and other things during labor. I'm not expecting to see mine at all this time either. But if it happens, I will try not to faint.

All of my labor "symptoms" ( aside from contractions which started 3 weeks before) occurred while I was in labor, about 6 hours before I delivered...lost my mucous plug, water broke, etc...all within an hour of each other.
  • Every person and every pregnancy is different.  With my first daughter, everything about my pregnancy was super easy and I didn't experience any symptoms of labor until the day that I gave birth.  Be thankful that your pregnancy has been easy so far!  :)
