Same name opinions and suggestions

So my husband and I love Benji for our little boy. I don't want to use just Benji though I would like to do Benjamin. Benjamin Garrett to exact. The problem is my SIL little boy who is a year is Knox Benjamin. I said we just say his name is Benji since that's what we call him but put Benjamin down on paper so if later he doesn't like Benji he will have a full name. What do you all think? Anyone dealt with anything similar?
By the way this SIL is one that everything is about her and how great she is so she will think Benjamin was picked to honor her or something ridiculous. Which in reality isn't the case I just really like the name Benji. That's what's throwing a wrench in our decision.

Re: Same name opinions and suggestions

  • If you love it, use it. Let SIL think what she will. I love Benjamin, it's on our short list.

  • Well I can't give you any advice but I can tell you...kinda long...I have a brother Jeffrey Daniel and my sister married a Jeffrey and they named their first son Lucas Jeffrey (after dad and kind of his uncle) and their second son Cody Daniel (after uncle)...if we have another boy ( we find out tomorrow) it will most likely me Marcus Jeffrey or Marcus Daniel! Our first is Austin Andrew after my hubs. I personally know she will flip her lid but I kinda think a name is what you make of it and I want that so she can either shut it or shut it! Lol!! Sisterly love!

I also have a sister in law who was married when we were pregnant with DS and she forbid us to use her name...I almost did it just to spite her! She is now divorced and still has 0 children.
  • Haha love it @cjstats87 . Yeah I'm trying not to use Carson for my best friend but I could care less about the SIL. Haha
  • If you're not naming them the same FIRST name I don't see the problem at all. Like if her son was "Josh" and you named your son "Josh" I'd think that was super weird and creepy.. personally. But using her son's middle name as your sons first name shouldn't matter!
  • My sister has a 5 year son Hayden James and my 10 month old is Elliott James. It isn't a big deal.
  • I'm using Anne as my little girls middle name. My sister, who is due 2 weeks after me, was going to name her baby Olivia. Then after I told her my baby name, she changed her daughters first name to Anna! Frustrating but I'm not changing my middle name. I don't think it's a huge deal as long as it's not the same exact first name.
  • I want to married
  • My sister had four kids before I was even married!! She used our dads first name as a middle name...we plan on doing the same thing. It's okay if middle names, or middle and first names match. Not many go by full names everyday. I say use Benjamin.
