Sharp pain during sneeze

Does anyone else get a sharp pain in the abdomen when they sneeze? It lasts about 5 seconds and terrifies me every time.

Re: Sharp pain during sneeze

  • When I cough sometimes yes. Only on my right side. First dr appt Friday so I'll ask

  • Yes I do. I get it when I sneeze and also when I get up too fast from laying down. I read that it's common and wasn't concerned enough to ask my midwife. The pain stops right away for me—It's just a quick twinge.
  • Round ligament pain can cause short jabbing pain when you sneeze or move suddenly. My latest symptom today is soreness in my lower abdomen and pelvis when I sneeze, like I've been working out.
  • Ah! I am so glad to see this! This happened to me the other day, it made me a little nervous, but since it only happened when I sneezed, I figured it wasn't anything too awful. This allergy season is getting me bad. I have never sneezed so much in my entire life.
  • Yep, round ligament pain. It'll get worse as your belly grows. I had to pull my knees up to my chest with my first pregnancy when I had to sneeze because it hurt so bad if I didn't!
  • With my first every time I sneezed or coughed I got a sharp pain. I had a ton more round ligament pain the first time around (I called them stretchy pains, almost like a sharp pulled muscle). It was so awkward in public, like * sneeze*...*double over into weird position*. It went away by 2nd tri! My doctor explained there's four rubber band-like ligaments holding the uterus in place and all of them stretch to accommodate, esp in the beginning. Hope that helps!
  • I had my first stabbing pain when sneezing the other day and about brought me to tears! DH was bout to grab me and run me out to hospital. So glad to know this is common and nothing major! Luckily I find mine only hurts if I sneeze laying down but these dang allergies definately don't help!!

  • I just came back from my first ultrasound and the tech said she could tell that I Ovulated from my right ovary. Apparently which ever ovary you ovulate from is the one that becomes enlarged for the first little bit and it's the one that procures HCG. She said don't be surprised if you feel pain on that side when you sneeze or cough. It's normal. It's due to the ovary being larger than usual.
  • Thanks for the info, all! I've been getting this too and while I wasn't concerned, it's nice to know what it likely is.
  • Yep! Happens to me too!
