I just discussed this with my sons pediatrician today and she said she recommended having it done just after delivery rather than while pregnant. There haven't been any studies done on it yet and she said it was probably safe but safer to just do it after. Baby will get a bit of immunity through breast milk.
I just got mine on Monday and I'm having a horrible reaction to it. I was throwing up Tuesday and my arm is red and swollen. It feels like someone punched me as hard as they could at the injection site. I'm sure this is a normal reaction but it sure does suck!
I am getting it next week. A booster is recommended every pregnancy to keep your antibodies up (and I'm a teacher so we're supposed to get a booster every couple of years anyway). It is one that tends to hurt and swell a bit after, so don't be super alarmed if that happens.
When DD was born 4 1/2 years ago I got it, along with DH, grandparents and our siblings to better protect our newborn. I am update as far as myself goes. I understand what they are saying about getting it every pregnancy because some of the antibodies will be passed on to the newborn. My only concern is that this current recommendation is very new. When I was pregnant with DD I asked if I could get it while pregnant because I knew I was not up to date. They said I would have to wait until baby was born. Even when I was pregnant with DS 2 1/2 years ago the recommendation only came out 2 months before he was born and it was never offered to me so I didn't get it. I am very pro-vaccine we follow the CDC recommendations and I get a flu shot every year pregnant or not. But as I said before, I hesitate because of how new this recommendation is. I haven't made up my mind yet. Baby should be pretty well cocooned because everyone close to the baby will have gotten it, I'm a SAHM so no daycare exposure, I BF which may offer some protection and baby will get the first whooping cough shot at 2 months. But as I said, I'm very pro-vaccine and don't really know what my concern is about getting it. Still on the fence.
I had mine yesterday. My arm was a little sore so I made sure to work it a lot until I went to bed. Thankfully I didn't have a bad reaction and I barely notice it today.
Just had this done today. It did surprise me, because I had a booster a couple of years ago. I let my OB know I thought I was up to date and she filled me in on the new recommendation. DH had his last one 5 years ago and she reccommended an update for him, too. My arm always gets sore after this one!
I haven't had a shot since I was 18 so around 7 years ago and don't plan on getting one anytime soon.
Why not? Even without pregnancy it is recommended every 10 years
Actually my OB and the affiliated hospital gives it each pregnancy. And recommends anyone around the baby get the shot as well.
@gotdiesel2007 I don't think you want to risk your baby getting whooping cough so you should do some further research on the importance of the vaccine for you and the baby.
I plan on getting the vaccine in the hospital after baby is born. I will be breastfeeding, so baby will still get immunity. I just don't feel comfortable getting it while pregnant. It's a fairly new recommendation with not very many studies done on pregnant women.
I did not know about this like PPs, but I got mine this week as well. My doctor did not warn me before the appointment but I asked the nurse a lot of questions as to why, so I was more comfortable. But it definately sucked the day after, ouch.
@qtjo5 thanks for the concern but if my doctor doesn't recommend it it's not happening. It's not like this is my first kid either. Three kids, three hospitals and three states and it has never once been recommended that I get the shot.
I am not anti-vaccine but I'm also not going to bug my doctors for something they don't recommend as they have degrees and I don't. No matter how much research I do it doesn't equal the degree and experience they have.

Got mine yesterday at the recommendation of my doctor. I was up-to-date (had one two years ago), but he mentioned the antibodies being passed onto baby and said it was a good thing. And, like a PP, I am a teacher as well, so I am good with the update.
Doc also recommended my fiance get the shot. He's gonna love that, lol.
My arm hurts today. and I had a hard time sleeping on my left side last night, but oh well. I figure this pain is nothing compared to what's in store three months from now.

I just got mine at 28 weeks it hurt so bad the next 3 days could hardly move my arm! My doctor HIGHLY recommend that I have it done while pregnant so could pass to baby
I got mine two days ago. I am fine with vaccinations, and got it with my first pregnancy also without any negative effects on baby. They told me if I have any redness, swelling, heat or other reactions to contact them immediately.

Have you notified your doctor? This isn't a normal reaction from what the nurse told me.
