Triumph....errr sort of.

So the bathtub faucet has been leaking on and off for two weeks now. I added it to my honey do list, which is a mile long now with spring projects. I decided to google how to fix it and found a YouTube video easily demonstrating how to complete the job. I figured, hey that looks easy enough. So I set off on my plumbing project. Picked up parts at Home Depot and everything was running smoothly until I couldn't get the cartridge to release. One broken nail, a severely pinched finger with pliers and a few choice curse words later, I ended up having to wait for DH to get home to finish the job. I was so close!

Have you taken on any projects while nesting that you have triumphed over or possibly came so close and had to have your SO or
professional come bail you out? Tell me I'm not alone here. X_X

  • This is gonna make DH sound like a monster, but there is a tacit agreement that I don't take on projects pretty much for that reason. Because then it's a project for DH ;)

  • Nice job !!! I am impressed. Hear this woman roar! :)
  • I don't, because I don't trust myself to do stuff like that. But my MIL fixed her TV with only the help of a YouTube video, without having any prior experience with anything similar to that! I was super impressed when she did that haha

  • I don't know the first thing about any sort of repair and DH is a master fix it of all things electrical, plumbing, mechanical...so excuse me while I eat cookies on the couch watching chopped.

I like to play helpless damsel in distress most of the time. Call it laziness, call it being the baby of the family..you go glen coco for doing that though. It sounds like hard work!
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • I am definitely the fixer between me and DH. I replaced a part in our dryer after taking apart the panel and I framed out a bathroom mirror during this pregnancy. DH is super intimidated - but between YouTube and Pinterest I feel decently prepared to take on small tasks.
  • The handle on my toilet broke and I figured out how to fix that... I was pretty impressed with myself. But, other than that, I let my man do any handy work around the house.
  • I'm an engineer and have tinkered with a bit of everything so I tend to take over projects. However, I can't lift or bend the way I normally would so the hubs has been doing most things. My last really big project was installing new flooring at my mom's house mostly by myself before finding out I was pregnant. I miss doing stuff like that.

I agree. I also pretend like the garbage is too heavy for me. (My doctor never said anything about not lifting heavy things, but DH somehow thinks that's a thing, so I go with it.) I impressed myself with using YouTube to figure out how to change the headlights on my car, though! And I had to bail my husband out when he got really confused about putting the crib together. I am very competent, but chose to use my powers as it suits me.
Yeah, my doctor hasn't said anything about lifting but DH will hardly let me carry anything other than laundry baskets. It's really nice for someone else to bring the groceries inside.
  • Yeah DH is a plumber so I NEVER touch sinks or toilets. You'd be sick if you saw what comes out of those things sometimes. Super Yuck. I do or did help with everything else. My dad forced me to learn how to work on my own car and to take construction classes...Can you tell I don't have brothers???

And I'm "not allowed" to lift anything either. It's ok with me most of the time but gah not everything is over 25lbs. Which BTW is a number DH came up with. My OB has never limited me. I think it's a made up man thing.
  • Mine is more of a fail. I was trying to go home for lunch today to move the laundry along and put dinner in the crockpot. Dh and I are trying to eat meals at home this week. Road work and an accident cut 12 minutes off my time and I only had 20-25 minutes to do the crap at home and eat. So I had to go to the next exit turn around and ended up eating McDonald's. Now I'm just ready to call the rest of the day a wash and go home.
  • I'm a farmers daughter so I'm used to doing a lot of the typical guy stuff/projects. I do a lot of the outside yard work, clean the gutters, repairing sprinklers, installing new landscaping, painting etc. DH is a former mechanic so he handles a lot of the car stuff, hot tub repair, general house maintenance, and gross stuff like septic clean up, and occasional mousse removal (we live in the country so this happens).

I like feeling like Shera sometimes. I define some of my strength through this. As far as the heavy lifting goes, I try not to lift more than about 40#. DH didn't want me to lift a 25# bag of dog food the other day, I was like, "our son weighs 30#, i think i can handle this." He's in uber protection mode now. It's kinda cute.
  • Its totally a thing for me to put stuff together. I'm actually REALLY looking forward to putting the crib together. Lots of fun. Plumbing scares me tho. You got total props from me on that
