Clear, jelly-like discharge - something to call OB about?

Anyone get this?  I've not had a lot of discharge throughout pregnancy like I know a lot of people get.  That said, this was totally new to me. Dr. Google says either mucus plug or totally normal.  (Isn't that everything with pregnancy though- it's either something or nothing.  Sigh.)  I was checked yesterday and am 2 cm dilated and 90% effaced;  could my exam have gotten the mucus plug stirred up?!  Or just random hormones and not the mp?

I'm just not sure if I should call the doc on call and ask or not.

eta: After several wipes I've gotten some brown spotting and maybe a few red dots-tiny.

  • Nope, nothing to call about unless you're extremely paranoid. It could be weird discharge or it could be your plug. By itself, it means nothing. If it's accompanied by heavy cramps or bleeding, then call your OB. Otherwise it's nothing. I lost my plug once or twice during each of my pregnancies. They regenerate.

  • CatsAreShady  Thanks! At what point did you lose your plug, if you remember.
  • I lost it at around 28 and 30 weeks this time. Then again around 37 weeks. I had my daughter (actually all of my kids) at 40 weeks 1 day. It never meant anything and wasn't accompanied by any pain or blood so I just told my doctor and moved on. I'm sure you're fine.
  • Even it was your mucus plug it is able to regenerate so there is no need to worry.

I almost wonder if that's gel from the exam. The exam could have stirred things up-this the brown spotting.
