Pregnant after 35

pregnant?

Hi ladies. I'm new to this board. I have a 21 month old son. I turned 41 in March And living overseas. I think I'm pregnant. I took a test today, period due yesterday and the test came up as positive. The test said 99% accurate from day period was due... I'm wondering if it's really accurate...freaking it a bit and happy too...

  • Congrats!!  If you're doubtful, I would just schedule a blood test with your OB.  But a line is a line in my book and I think false positives are pretty rare.

  • I remember staring at my bfp with this baby in complete shock and disbelief thinking there is NO WAY I'm pg. but I was and we have just over 5 weeks to go! I'll be 43 when this baby is born. I was 37 when my last baby was born.

Sounds like a bfp to me! I agree a line is a line. Congrats & welcome!

  • yep, very accurate if told pregnant!  Congratulations.  You see them come up "wrong" more often when people actual are pregnant and it says negative.  EIther the test was not preformed right or conception was  a little later than figured and there isn't enough hormone for the test to read yet.  But if you got positive...you are good to go!

I am 42 and have a daughter about the age of your son.  I also have 6 other children, making this current pregnancy my 8th child.
  • Sounds like a positive!  Like some others, I, too, stared at my test and thought "no freaking way," but here we are at 26 weeks along.

BTW, I got my first test at the dollar store, lol.  We thought maybe it was inferior and my fiance wouldn't believe I was pregnant until I took a more expensive test the next morning, lol.

    Congrats!!!!

  • I agree with what everyone has said. Fortunately, you have 40 weeks to get used to the idea. ;) Congratulations!

  • Thanks, ladies. You are all very sweet and encouraging. I need to breathe!!!
  • Go to the doctor, to be sure.
  • Hey @sameeha32, this post was from April. Pretty sure the OP has a good idea by now ;)
  • Hello ladies. Glad to see so much help here. I'm 38 and maybe having my first. So it is now 21 days late period and BFNx4. Will do another test this week as well. Have some many symptoms going on even hot flashes. Right now having headaches, lower Back aches off and on, sneezing a lot, only 1week of really hurt boobs, cramping like AF is coming and my husband is complaining about my face breaking out and how tired I am all the time now. He felt nauseous one day so he sent me to take a test..BFN. Some thing is so wrong with me. Maybe thyroid? Have any one heard of the home made bleach pregnancy test ? Supposedly it was used in the old days to detect pregnancy...saw some people try it on you tube. U take a little urine and then pour a little bleach in that cup...if it froth or bubbles lots then u are pregnant. If it doesn't u are not. I think I will try it for the fun of it. Any idea what can be wrong with me?
  • Get a digital test and if you're still not sure, a blood test from your doctor. I wouldn't trust s homemade bleach test.
  • Go to the doctor. It could be anything
  • Update....So I have missed 2 periods now and still having all kinds of symptoms but negative urine test. Went to doctor and had negative urine test. I asked for blood test but he says not necessary because I'm not pregnant. He says my uterus at my yearly appt that day felt normal. He put me on hormone pills aygestin to have a cycle for 5 days. I've stopped after those 5 days completed as directed and still no AF. Is it possible that my doctor is wrong? Anyone experience this before? Any insight?
  • Trust your doctor
  • Is this your regular pcp or an ob/gyn? If it's your regular pcp I'd be curious to get your ob/gyn involved given your other symptoms

Anything is possible. Is there another clinic you could go to and asks for a blood test, just for peace of mind?

I've experienced missed periods. I've experienced pregnancy "symptoms" when I've not actually been pregnant. A negative pregnancy test means you're not pregnant. If you're wondering if your doctor is wrong about you being pregnant then I honestly don't think so. Hopefully you find answers soon.
