2 cm Dilated, 4 weeks Early

Hi mamas ! Wondering if any if you have been in this boat. At my weekly checkup today, doc discovered that I am 2 cm dilated. I am 35 weeks 5 days. Concerned about preterm labor, doctor ordered me to stop working right away ... I was not expecting this at all as my due date is 4 weeks and 2 days away. I was planning to work until 4/17. Doctor said that I could possibly go anytime now or potentially stay dilated like this for weeks. I feel pretty good, just a little crampy ( feels like menstrual cramps) and I am just starting to notice some very faint twingey pains in my abdomen. Any one else experiencing some early labor signs?

Re: 2 cm Dilated, 4 weeks Early

  • I wouldnt be too concerned. I was 4cm dilated for weeks with my daughter and ended up going 2 weeks overdue. I was 1cm at 28weeks this time and am now 35w. If u r feeling ok i wouldnt worry :)

  • I was 2cm dilated for weeks and baby came late. I think it's a little crazy that your doctor took you off work only for dilation. Were there other issues too?
  • I am 35 weeks 1 day and just found out at my weekly check up today that i am 1cm dilated. I am already only workong 3 hour work shifts due to the pelvic pain ive been have since about 30weeks. I've been feeling alot of aches and twinges now that he checked me this am..althought he didnt seem to concerened. With my first child I had her at exactly 35 weeks and I think he's just happy that I've made it this far because he was expecting to go way earlier this time around. Sorry tmi but I've also had alot more frequent and looser stools than normal..not sure if it's my body getting ready for baby or not...

  • No other issues! Last week they checked and I my cervix was closed... I'm wondering how necessary it was for me to go out so early. I feel a little silly going out so long before my due date but I do want to do whatever I can to keep baby cooking in there for as long as possible. I'm a mental health case manager and my days consist of a lot of running and driving around sometimes far away. Better to be safe than sorry I guess...

  • With my first I was 2 cm dilated at 35 weeks, Dr wasn't concerned and I didn't have any problems. Was 4 cm at 38 weeks and delivered a few days later. Every pregnancy is different, and like others have said you can walk around for weeks dilated. Enjoy your time off work, take it easy and stay hydrated :)
