Average Cost of a Will

Anyone who has had a will drawn up that wouldn't mind sharing how much they paid for it? My DH and I are finally getting around to doing this (better late than never, right?) and the guy he has found seems ridiculously over-priced to me but I don't have a ton to base it off of. And if you got one, what did it include (how many wills, power of attorney, etc.)? Thanks in advance!

Depends on area and lawyer. We were blessed by a lawyer friend doing ours with no billing (but it is time to update) but my parents just had theirs redone with medical directives ect at about 450$ for both.
I would call around a few places in your area to get a gauge on if your husbands guy is priced right.

When my father died at 48, which was five years ago this may, he didn't have a will. Eventhough I am 30, I wanted to be prepared and have everything laid out when I die. That being said, I paid only $300 and you can re advise the will anytime. Hope that helps.

Thanks ladies! I am going to make some calls tomorrow, but he is getting referred from our financial advisor and he wants to sign up for it tomorrow, which is pissing me off because we haven't actually shopped around or sat down to discuss it and I don't believe in rushing in without doing some research first!!!

We did ours around 4 years ago. I think it was about $400, if my memory is accurate.

I do think it also depends on where you live.

You might check out LegalZoom.com also. I was able to do all the legal stuff for my business on there. It probably depends how in-depth and personalized you want to make it, but you should be able to see a basic price.

I think we paid around $700 to have it drawn out. That was the will and POA. It's so worth it for the piece of mind alone.

In Idaho the standard price for a couple's will and POA is right at $700.

If either of you have life insurance through your employer, check if they also have an EAP. Some programs include will preparation at reduced or no cost. It might be a good start.

I'm an attorney in upstate NY and I charge $375 for one and $550 for a couple doing mirrored wills.

Definitely a good time to do your will, though, good luck!

I'm an atty in Northern Virginia. For a couple I charge $850 for the whole package (will, POA, AMD, HIPPA, and declarations). Also assumes a relatively uncomplicated estate.

Do you know if that's a fee you have to pay for a will? I know several notaries that would do it for free and that's be great, unless they have to charge that.
