Re: registry

  • We just received a white noise machine in the mail from DH's aunt. She said that it was the only thing that allowed her and her husband to get any sleep when their children were babies, and her boys only stopped using theirs within the last two years (her kids are 6 and 9, I believe). Here's the one that we got:

If you already had this on your registry, sorry that I missed it!

  • awesome..thank you I will check it out
  • I've totally heard differing opinions on white noise machines and room darkening curtains. Some say they make it too hard for baby to sleep with noise or light. My guess is each baby is different. We are going to try without one at first and if she's too light a sleeper - like her parents- we'll got out and get one right away!
  • I read the comment initially like the sound machine let the parents get some sleep. I've heard some babies make a lot of noise while they're sleeping! DH and I use one for a few reasons, and we do have one on the registry, but it does make me nervous to have the baby get too used to it. He'll have to sleep in a pretty noisy room at daycare!

Yes, from what I understand, it helped the parents sleep, because it put the kids to sleep. Here's exactly what my husband's aunt said in her note:  "A sound machine like this is what got us through the early months. Within the last 2 years we FINALLY stopped using it with our guys. May God bless you and your baby with peaceful sleep. Love, Aunt ____."

So, what I took her to mean was that the sound machine soothed both of her kids and because they were able to sleep better with the sound machine, DH's aunt and uncle had better sleep, too.

Agree with @hoodoll82 that each baby is probably different... my mom told me that sound machines helped me and my siblings when we were infants, which is why we added this to our registry (that, and I'd been receiving flak from some family members about not having enough expensive items on my list... so I slapped a few on there - if they want to spend the money, I'll be more than happy to oblige them and pick out some extra things! haha). Since DH's aunt bought this for us, we'll be giving it a try :)
