Lamaze or not to Lamaze

Hello all! I just wanted to get opinions on taking a Lamaze class or not. This is my first child, so I want to be as prepared as possible. But I totally know there's no way to be completely prepared! Our hospital offers a free two-part labor basics class or we can pay for a four-week Lamaze class. We're getting down the the end, so we need to make the call soon. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Re: Lamaze or not to Lamaze

  • I would definitely take them up on that free class, whether you decide for the lamaze or not. I'm taking a childbirth preparation class but other than that not any other classes (there are no more! Small town, haha). Some of the ladies in this board have talked about other classes, hopefully you get some more replies to help

  • I would have taken the lamaze class but it was too expensive for us, so we're opting for the free regular childbirth class through the hospital. I'll probably pick up a book here in the next week or two, just to get some ideas.

  • I took a Lamaze class with my first and honestly forgot everything I learned as soon as I started having contractions! I came to my senses and remembered after a while but I didn't feel like the techniques really helped with the pain. I know some people say they do, but i guess it just wasn't for me. I just wasn't prepared for labor at all! (I think it is impossible to be with your first!) this time I am doing a hypnobabies self study class and I'm hoping that will help more (along with kind of knowing what to expect since it is my second).
