Old belly button piercing irritation and stretch mark

I had my belly button pierced when I was 16, but removed the ring back in September when I found out I was pregnant. I'm now about 30ish weeks pregnant and I have a weird stretch mark above where the hole was and the piercing itself is highly irritated. It is red and a tad bit itchy. The hole hasn't closed up yet. Anyone else have this and have advice for making it better? Is this normal?

Re: Old belly button piercing irritation and stretch mark

  • I haven't gotten a stretch mark there yet (but I have a lot of friends who got one right there), but the top hole definitely recently started getting all red and irritated.  I made sure to share that tidbit with my 17-year-old niece in case she's thinking about getting the piercing. ;)

Mine was really uncomfortable last week, and now it's still a bit red, but it feels totally fine.  Oh the joys of stretching our bodies so damn much.

  • Mine is stretched to the max. It even got to the point of infection. I used some antibacterial ointment (neosporin) and a band aid until it got better. Now i just keep lots of lotion on and it helps. I am really afraid if I get any bigger its going to rip the skin :( Also there is some lotion called Maderma. It is for stretch marks, very spendy but well worth it.

  • I know I took my ring out shortly after I found out I was pregnant with my first...thats been 3 & 1/2 years ago...I've attempted to put a ring back in a few times but it will get red and itchy like you said so I choose not to even try anymore but the hole is still there and completely open where I could put one in if I wanted to. Not sure what has made it different so that it gets so irritated now!

  • My belly button is fine, but I have 4 microdermals in my hips (I can't find anyone who will remove them for me), and each one has like a starburst of stretch marks around it. They take turns getting red and irritated, and then they go back down. Stretching is just a pain. I think the only reason my navel is okay is that I never got an outie, so my maternity ring sits in there okay still.

  • I took my ring out over a decade ago and it's still super irritated where the ring was. It's also very red and starting to sort of turn into a stretch mark above my belly button. Just putting lotion on it has really helped. Olive oil can also be very moisturizing for the skin.

Getting my belly button pierced was possibly the worst decision I've ever made, haha
  • I had mine for 7 year before becoming pregnant, and took the ring out. I did have to really clean it out, got some really gross puss out and seems to be fine since then. Make sure you clean it!
