feeling like losing my friends

Hello all, congrats to everyone. I just found out I am expecting my first baby and I am very excited however I don't want to tell my friends yet as it is so early. I had to lie about why I was not drinking and skip out on a birthday party with my friends which left me very depressed and feeling very left out. I feel like I am going to miss out on fun with my friends and I will be alone a lot because they just want to party. Is anyone else going through this? Any advice to not lose my friends who do not have kids? Thanks all

  • Well honestly you probably will lose friends. And if your friends can't understand that you want to be a responsible mother, you don't need them as friends anyways.

I'm sure you understand that being a parent is a ginormous responsibilty and you will miss out on drinking and partying with your friends.

  • If your friends are gonna ditch you for being pregnant they probably aren't worth your time anyways. I have a 3 year old and once I had him friends became my last concern. Your best friend will enter the world before you know it.
  • Life changes. When I first had my dd I didn't even notice a separation, although it did happen. Your whole world is going to become very preoccupied by your lo. Your good friends will understand and still be your good friends. Before you know it they'll be in the same boat! I do know that some times when I am hormonal I'll feel separated. In those times it's always good to reach out as a reminder that you still have them. The relationship is just different.
  • I too feel very isolated right now as it is way to early to tell any friends. Its stressful worryong if someone will bug me bc i am not drinking but dont sweat it. Its just apart of the process....they will understand in the end...your baby comes first now..not them

I lost a ton of friends when I had kids too. The good news? When you join activities with other new moms, you'll find new friends that are generally more mature and responsible and you'll find you have more in common with them.

Hey, growing up is painful! But it all changes for the better the first time you see that little baby fast asleep next to you.
