bottles and breast pump

so I have decided to go with the Medela breast pump..but really love the Avent bottles...there is a convertor for the bottles to attach to the pump, but I was wondering what you second time moms think of the medela bottles? would you go ahead and get them or go with the ones you love?

Re: bottles and breast pump

  • You can use any bottles you want. You can just pump into bags and then pour into whatever bottle you want.

  • I have the same setup with advent bottles. I would always pump into the little storage containers that screw onto the pump and transfer into the bottles later.
  • I would wait and see what your baby prefers. If they take the medela bottles its really nice to skip a step as pumping is a lot of work. I didn't produce much extra milk so we were never freezing much and it was cheaper not to use bags. I had about 10 medela bottles and would take 5 to work each day for pumping, combining into one bottle after each session this allowed for up to 4 pump sessions. In our case we tried 5-6 types of bottles and DS wasn't wild about any of them, so we stuck with Medela.

  • Also if you aren't very responsive to pumping that milk becomes like liquid gold and you'll want to avoid bag adapters or anything that increases the changes of a spill. I will again pump to the medela bottles even if we end up using something different for this baby.

  • Here are the adapters. I'm a FTM, so I can't give any reviews.
