  • Why would cole slaw be a concern?

  • Ditto to the above. There's nothing wrong with coleslaw.

  • Whew! Too much dr. Google! Lol!
  • Gosh I hope coleslaw isn't a concern, I was craving coleslaw at around week 8 so went to kfc. Not sure why coleslaw would be bad...
  • What about homemade chicken salad that was kept cold in my fridge?
  • Homemade chicken salad could be iffy just because of how touchy chicken is. Was it cooled at the proper temperature and then made? How long did it sit out? I dunno I'm not an expert but I would stay away.
  • I make homemade chicken salad all the time
  • I used canned chicken
  • The only concern would be raw eggs in the mayo, which I'm pretty sure will not be used in most cases. And if they are raw they are probably pasteurized.
  • The only reason I wouldn't eat coleslaw or chicken salad is if it was sitting out for hours...
  • What in the world is wrong with chicken?!!! This is getting crazy. Chicken is absolutely fine, healthy and part of a very healthy diet for a pregnant woman unless you are a vegetarian, of course!
  • Talk to your doctor about what they prefer. I realize that even then it could be old info. Do NOT use google. And use common sense! The only thing my doctor told me absolutely not was raw oysters. But even those can be eaten safely, in season and in the correct location.

The dos and don'ts of pregnancy are ridiculous and people's opinions have somehow turned into "bad" foods. Obviously you shouldn't eaten any food that has been sitting out for hours, but you wouldn't do that in a nonpregnant state either!!
  • OP, in case you're feeling bad for even asking, quick story for you:  with my first pregnancy, I was googling nutrition info as I was drinking a fruit & veggie smoothie, and saw that large amounts of Vitamin A can cause birth defects and should be avoided.  I glance at the bottle and see it has like 600% of the daily recommended value of Vitamin A in it.  I called my doctor right away in a panic, asking what I should do.  I was so afraid I had just hurt my baby!  The nurse who answered said - stop drinking it.  LOL.  Common sense is a great recommendation, but pregnancy seems to interfere with it somehow.  I'm normally a very rational person.
