Someone at work keeps telling me I have to go to the hospital sometime before the baby and fill out paper work for an epidural should I need it . . . I've never heard that before and neither has my mom. Anyone else ever hear of that??
I preregistered at the hospital so I don't have to waste time with paperwork and insurance when I roll in ready to have a baby- but there was nothing there about an epi. Crazy!
I think there might be a consent form to recieve a voluntary epidural ( I could be wrong) bit at least at my hospital you don't have to pre register for it. They have you pre register for admittance to the hospital I'm at so you're not struggling trying to do it while in labor though.
I'm pretty sure that's wrong. I would call the hospital, have them email you the pre-registration paperwork and procedures and tell her (nicely) that she shouldn't talk about things she knows about. Essentially tell her to shut her pie hole.
That would make no sense at all to have to do. What if you went to the hospital intending to have a fully natural birth, but then decided that you really wanted the epidural, would they just not give it to you because you didn't "pre-register"? I think the lady telling you this doesn't quite know what she is talking about... I would look into pre-registering for the hospital stay though, if your hospital does that.
My hospital requires us to pre-register at 36 weeks. We completed all of the insurance paperwork. We also signed paperwork for c-section (if needed), blood transfusion (if needed), and epidural (if I decide I want one). I also signed for the baby's immunizations/shots (Hep B and Vit K). Basically, all of our paperwork is done and when we show up we can go directly into our labor suite without worrying about any paperwork throughout the whole hospital stay. The only paperwork we'll do is birth certificate and discharge.
I'd call your hospital and see what they require. I'd recommend getting all paperwork out of the way before you arrive in labor if they allow iT.
Like others have mentioned, you just sign a consent form at some point. I pre-registered and signed mine already because I will more than likely be getting one with twins in case an emergency c-section is needed.
Re: Do you register for an epidural? ?
I know I had to fill out some pre-reg paperwork, my doc gave it to me at an appt weeks ago. But nothing about epis or anything else birth related.
