June 2015 Moms

big blow to the budget

We had to take my car in because the brakes felt funny. What wasn't funny was what they found and how much $ it was going to cost. I need new back brakes, an emergency brake, & a master cylinder...grand total of over $500 :(( I'm a little bummed because we were going to split our remaining funds from our last paychecks to pay off our washer and dryer, purchase the travel system for LO, and put some into the savings account. I know it sounds petty, but it could just be hormones...I'm really saddened that we can't make headway yet again due to adult problems getting in the way. I hope the rest of you have a wonderful Easter weekend!

  • Yep our car is crapping the bed. So we are now having to deal with that! Ugh, I'm sorry you are having car issues too.
  • @js10082011 I am sorry to hear that! What a bummer :(

@klkonwi I really just feel so bad about your headaches! That must be the absolute worst!

Hope your weekend gets better, ladies!
  • Unexpected expenses like that are frustrating! Sorry you have to deal with this. I hope you get some good luck soon to balance out the bad!

  • Yup. Due to a paperwork snafu my Hubby's job wasn't withholding state taxes. We found out when, of course, doing our 2014 taxes. Surprise - we owe over $800. Not great when we were hoping to get a refund to use for paying for some (necessary) home repairs, and hoping to pay off some extra bills with the rest to be better situated when ewok comes. Like @klkonwi says - adulting is hard. (I like this sentence so much, gal, I'm stealing it for real life). Sigh.... :-<

  • I know the feeling. We were saving up to get over the hump if maternity leave. Low and behold my boiler craps the bed. $3,000 later and I have heat again. And that was it being done by family. My other estimate was $6,900.
  • We owe 700 for taxes this year ugh better then the 2k we owed last year. Plus my husband decided to fall and put a hole in our tub while showering. So he put a temporary patch on it but it's going to cost us about 2 grand to get a whole new tub and shower replacement.
We're also in a bind with an accident he was in last year and we may owe the other persons insurance company about 30k in damages since we weren't covered for the full amount and then another 1k to the state for him hitting a guard rail. Sooooo needless to say you aren't a lone and it could be worse..
  • Bleh to all of these.
  • 3000 in taxes owed here. Totally feeling your pain
  • I don't even want to know what DH and I will owe the hospital - it will be 2 wks Monday since I was admitted. If baby girl is growing on her scan, we keep baking. I will be having a c-section, and then baby girl will be in the NICU for a while. It will all be worth it in the end though!! And luckily we opted to double cover me through DH's work and my school - those higher premiums are paying off!
  • $11k to taxes this year...aaaand just had to pay $600 for my brakes. At first I stressed so much about it and then I realized there is literally not a thing I could do to change either one of those so...just ponied up (at least with a pout). Being an adult is stupid.
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • Feeling the pain as well. $3,000 here for new curbs and street in front of my house that they apparently can't pay for with the multitudes of taxes I already pay. It's considered an assessment that will raise property values. Oh gosh, well thanks then for forcing me to do it without a choice!

  • Our kiddos will be SO lucky to have great parents like us! There are definitely those days I wish I could go back to the innocence of a child. No worries about anything but if we would have dessert or not following dinner!
  • I am super stressed about money but I realize everyone gets through this - or has to! And all of us will too. My mom raised three kids on minimum wage jobs while going to school. We can do this!
  • Blah , I feel you on the random money crap.
  • It could always be worse. By DH works in the oil industry. Which means we are trying to ride out the slump it's in. So his paycheck has been cut in half for the foreseeable future. And I'm a SAHM of soon to be 5. Adulting sucks so bad right now.
  • Well at least your A/C is still working in your car unlike mine. I also live in Florida so I've been burning. I took mine in and my whole compressor has gone out. Over $1000 to fix.
  • We just had to drop $1700 for new wheel bearings and tires. Ugh.
  • Yeah I was more than willing to ride around in my hoop-dee car. No ac, one door doesn't open, one window doesn't work... But can't responsibly put a baby in it!
  • I'm planning for a new baby and just starting to plan my stepsons bar mitzvah at the same time. I was already stressed about paying for daycare and now I'm seeing the prices for the venues.
  • Found out on Thursday we need four new tires. . . $830. Ugh!! I totally feel your pain. "Adulting is hard" couldn't have said it better myself, @klkonwi
