  • I take an iron supplement and eat more red meat.

  • I was put on iron by my doctor. Your doctor should have a given you a plan for treating your anemia.
  • Iron supplement, but you should definitely talk to your doctor to gauge how bad your anemia is. Don't just start taking a bunch of iron, from what I've read that can be kind of dangerous :)
  • I'm also taking an iron supplement. My doc told me if I can't get my levels up before delivery I'll have to have a blood transfusion. :/
  • If iron supplements upset your stomach, which they have been known to do, try the following:
    (1) if you take your prenatal with breakfast, take the supplement after dinner or vice versa
    (2) try a slow release iron supplement - the name brand is slow Fe. I actually like the CVS generic of slow Fe better, it's easier on my stomach.

Yes. Despite taking it twice a day, I am still too low. She switched me to another one. :) It causes me to have constipation and "mudd butt", so I also take a stool softner (Docusate NA) twice a day. Every morning I have some Basic Four cereal in yogurt and 1 cup of cofee. It keeps things moving! :D

I also take a supplement. My Dr told me to take 325mg of iron supplement daily. Also - I make sure that my iron supplement is separated from any food or other vitamins by at least an hour on either side, and take it with orange juice (vitamin c helps it to absorb better). Not the kind with added calcium tho (calcium prevents absorption). I have also been trying to eat more red meat and iron rich foods (asparagus). Ask your Dr if they want you to take a supplement, and if so how much.
I can tell you the iron has helped my energy levels a bit. I'm not like 'let's go get the world' or anything, but the stuff I do have to tackle I don't feel so damned beat when doing it

  • Right now they recommended fortified cereal and red meat. If my counts drop any lower, they will put me in a supplement.

  • Taking an iron supplement. CVS slow release. Just once a day. Haven't been retested yet but I certainly feel more energetic.

  • Suppliment..325 twice/day. I take it with orange juice (vit. C supposed to assist absorption of iron). I have noticed im quite more energetic than before.. But i am now struggling with constipation. Prune juice has made a big difference in that area.
  • I have to take an iron supplement too & it really messes up my stomach. I don't really want a blood transfusion though. :|
  • I take my pills first thing in the morning and I also drink carnation instant breakfast when I take my pills. It's full of other vitamins also 25%of your daily iron doc said it was ok
  • I was told that I have anemia and my doc gave me iron ,and I felt more energetic
