20 week A/S - heart rate question

We had the 20 week scan yesterday afternoon, and the tech was fairly quiet, which I know is typical. She said the kidneys and heart looked normal but didn't comment on any other areas of the baby, other than to show us his crossed arms. We weren't quite sure what we were looking at, but it was pretty neat!

The tech did remark that the baby wasn't moving much and noted his heart rate was 177 (we know it's a boy already). In my 14 & 18 week appointments the HR was 160. I thought it should generally be going down as the pregnancy progresses and 177 seems high for this late in the pregnancy, though I am not a doctor so that's all Google & baby books on my part.

They told me my doc will review the findings with me, but I'm curious if anyone else had similar scans and how it turned out.

Thanks!

Re: 20 week A/S - heart rate question

  • Baby heart rate can be between 110-180. Mine was 151 for anatomy scan and couldn't feel baby when she kicked. Your fine

  • Normal fetal heart rate is 110-160. She could have caught the baby in the middle of an acceleration (increase in heart rate) when listening and counting bpm. It sounds like he has a higher baseline of 160s anyway. I wouldn't worry about this unless your doctor tells your otherwise. (I am a l&d RN!) hope this helps.
  • At my doc appointment last week(21 weeks), my Ob said the baby's heart rate was 165 and commented that it was nice and strong.
