How much water are you drinking?

I'm just curious how much everyone is drinking every day? I drink at least 60 ounces a day, most days closer to 80. Today I've killed almost a whole gallon. My doctor hasn't told me an exact amount, but when I tell them how much I drink they just say that's great. I've researched it and found lots of different answers. DH is constantly lecturing me and telling me to drink more. I don't think I'm dehydrated but the past couple weeks no matter how much I drink, my urine is still yellow (sorry of that's TMI). I've always heard that if your urine is yellow it's a sign of dehydration, but seriously if a gallon of water doesn't hydrate you what will? How much are you ladies drinking?

Re: How much water are you drinking?

  • I don't think the issue is that your urine is yellow.. It will always have a yellow colouration it's more about how dark (concentrated) or infrequent it is that indicates the potential of dehydration or potential kidney issues.. I am also not medically certified in any way but that is what I've always been told.

  • @christinabrtn you're right. Your urine will always have a yellow color to it. It's your body ridding itself of waste products. Even if your urine looks darn near clear it isn't, it's that it's further diluted by the water in the toilet. OP it sounds like your doing a better job than I am with your water intake. Keep up the good work!

  • My urine is much darker in the morning than throughout the day. I chalk it up to my body ridding itself of the extra nutrients from my prenatal vitamin. I take my vitamin at night.
I do know that I do not drink enough water though. I'm drinking about 40-50 oz and I just can't get with it during this pregnancy. I would drink 60-80oz a day pre pregnancy.
  • I drink 8 20oz bottles if water throughout the day. My urine stays light colored /pale.
  • It just seems strange because it seems to be darker than it was. I still go as frequently as before and I'm not having any pain or anything. I'm just paranoid about getting dehydrated because at the end of my first trimester I wound up in the ER for dehydration and a migraine. Not something I care to repeat. I also know it's a good habit to keep when I start breastfeeding.

You are drinking enough water. I highly doubt there will be dehydration with a gallon of water a day. The dark urine might be from prenatal vitamins or food you're eating.
  • First two trimesters I was drinking almost two liters a day. Now I am down to about six 8 ounce glasses a day. I know it's not enough, but a) too much mixing of water and food exacerbates my heartburn, and b) I stop drinking water about two hours before bed so I can sleep through the night.
  • I have increased fruit intake (lots of berries) and I wonder if that might be it. Thanks for the reassurance, ladies! I just want to make sure LO is well cared for

I try to drink about 60-80 oz of water as well. My urine is sometimes a little yellow and I usually notice that after I take my prenatal vitamins.
  • I drink about a gallon a day, give or take.

  • I try to always have a bottle of water going, but I can't help but think more water = more bathroom trips! Ugh!
  • I drink MAX 60 oz a day. Most of the time less. I am really horrible about drinking water or any beverage. Most of the time I just don't even have a free second at work because I'm running around like a chicken with my head cut off..
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • 60-80 oz also. Sometimes I'm still super thirsty!
  • 2 liters max... and thays a struggle some days. I wish someone would just bring it to me in a cold glass and maybe i could get more in. The mid afternoon is when i drink the most.
  • I have a 32 oz cup that I fill about five times a day. My toddler steals some in the evenings so I probably hover around 100-110 oz a day.

  • I drink about 76-90 oz a day (I know it's a weird number but I have a 24oz water bottle that is always with me) so 3-4 of those a day. Urine is generally pale yellow. I was actually debating starting a thread asking how many times a day y'all visit the bathroom, because I swear I'm somewhere in the 20-25 range. It was a coin toss to see if if get flamed or not so I let it go. Lol [-O<
  • I aim for 64-70 oz a day. I'm to the point where I don't care about the nightly bathroom trips anymore. I just want to lessen leg cramps and prevent pre-term labor.

If you plan on breastfeeding, you won't need to worry about making a habit of drinking water. You will be thirsty thirsty thirsty, all. the. time!

But with respect to your initial question. I think that you are definitely doing A-OK in the water department!

  • All of you are doing WAY better than me. I make sure I drink a liter a day (33.8oz) and then aim to finish another one, and usually get halfway there. Somewhere I read that pregnant women should drink 2 liters a day. I just 1) don't like water and 2) am usually not thirsty. Also, I tend to sleep late (thanks night shifts) and so it's already around noon or 1pm before I begin to drink at all, so half of my day is lost already, I truly just run out of time. So, I think youre doing great on the water

  • I was up to 3 liters a day during the first tri. I was sooooo thirsty and so sick of water. It's happening again now that I'm in the 3rd. My biggest issue is drinking too quickly. Basically the water doesn't absorb before my body eliminates it so I have to pee all the time and I'm STILL dehydrated!

  • 2 to 3 liters a day. Upping it now to a little more due to headaches.
  • 130 to 150 oz a day
  • I try to drink about 120oz a day, it's actually more challenging than I ever thought.

  • Thanks ladies. I have a 20 oz tervis tumbler and I challenge myself to fill it up 4-5 times a day. I struggle because my commute is over an hour and if I drink too much getting ready for work or at the end of the day, I just about don't make it to the bathroom by the time I get to work or home. Trying like crazy to drink as much as possible. That glucose was super nasty after drinking pretty much just water.
  • I drink 3 liters a day.
  • Oh u guys are perfect , I don't drink at all ,just 6 glasses of milk ,I hate water
  • 4 liters a day plus juice and milk. I am constantly thirsty and I wake up at seven to get all my liquids in. But I think it just really depends on the person.
