Re: Bed Rest Check-In 4/3/15

  • This past week I felt a bit antsy. A couple of my friends that were supposed to visit me, flaked. So not only am I bored, I feel a bit lonesome. It's ok though I've got lots to be grateful for. I made it to 30 weeks today!

    QOTD: Do you have a
good book or television show to recommend for others to enjoy while on bed
    rest? Or another activity?

As a middle school teacher, I noticed that more than a few students are into reading John Green books. So I read them and they're actually pretty good! The ones I read are the Fault in Our Stars, An Abundance of Katherine's, Paper Towns, and Looking for Alaska. I don't mind reading young adult/teen books since it's the age group that I teach. I've also read Divergent but I can't get myself to continue the series. Maybe I will eventually but in my honest opinion it's just not as good as Hunger Games!

For TV shows I've been watching reruns of Grey's Anatomy, Friends and Keeping Up with the Kardashian's. I'm also looking forward to Game of Thrones! Especially since The Walking Dead just finished.

Another activity I'm going to try to do is take an online class. It's a 6 week class on creative writing and illustration.

How is everyone else doing? I could use some suggestions for a good book that's not targeted to teeny boppers. :)

  • Hello, I am currently on strict bed rest have been since 18wks now I'm 26wks I'm having a little boy who should be here about 7/11. They put me on bed rest because my son has obstructive uropathy, which isn't very common during pregnancy, but we're doing all we can to help him, and other than that he's doing very good, this will come with obstacles but I'm up for it.
Right now I've been watching switched at birth, bones and supernatural.. when I'm not watching tv shows I'm doing little activities like painting, reading, and coloring... just to keep me busy
  • Have you read any Janet Evanovich books? She's one of my mom's favorites, I'm addicted as well. :))
  • Well, ladies, another week behind us. Woot woot. I'd love it if I had just 3 more to go. I'm 34 weeks along, been on modified bed rest for just a couple weeks so far due to severe back pain from scoliosis. Rest, acupuncture, heating pad, warm bath, massage... All seem to be helping. But, when I push myself I reach a limit real fast. Like when I went to the store to buy whole milk for DD .... Big mistake! Just the walk from the car to the door.... Ouch.

QOTD: I've been studying Hypnobirthing again. I'm also finishing up knitting a cardigan for this LO. I've been watching a LOT of reality TV: Married at First Sight, Newlyweds the First Year, Little People of LA and NY, Real Housewives of BH, Who Do You Think You Are, etc. And poking around online. And texting with SAHM friends. Somehow my days go by and then I realize I haven't really done much.

  • @xstacyannex I'll have to check out her books. Thanks for the suggestion!

@supersarah77 Are you reading a particular book on hypnobirthing? I used the Hypnobabies home course with my first and now I'm just kind of doing a review. It was really helpful for me the first time so now I'm just listening to the cd's.
  • So excited another week has passed in the hospital! We have our growth scan Monday and if she isn't growing, C section will be scheduled for Wednesday or Thursday since I am 32 weeks on Thursday. My Fluid dropped yesterday to one 2cm x 3cm pocket which is the lowest it has been since admission. So even if she is growing, I have a feeling we may be delivering late next week. Just thankful she has a good chance of making 32 weeks!

I've been watching Friends in order for the first time. As soon as I finish it, I am going to watch parenthood - I've heard nothing but rave reviews. I am usually a huge reader, but I haven't had the concentration to sit here and read - I'm too antsy.

Our exciting news of the week is that we bought a house! We are moving 90 min for my general surgery residency after little girl arrives, and we now have a place to move to!!

@CillyMama - I've been feeling restless this week too.  See below for some book suggestions :-)

@xstacyannex - Welcome - and glad to see you've found some things to occupy your time.  BR starting at 18 weeks?  Wow.  I'm sure you could give all of us some pointers.  :-)

@supersarah77 - I made the mistake of pushing myself a little too this week and did not feel great afterward.  I have to force myself to not do things that I would have done without thinking before.

@knwilliams01 - good luck this week!

    AFM...

Had my fetal echocardiogram on 3/31.  Apparently this is standard in many IVF pregnancies although I did not have one during pregnancy with DD.  My little girl has a functional / innocent heart murmur (translation - not a big deal).  DH had this as a child too.  Little boy is growing big and strong, no heart issues on ultrasound.  I have a growth scan on 4/6 at MFM and a check-up with OB on 4/9.

QOTW:  TV shows - Empire (watched it On Demand last week) was not bad.  DH and I watch Blacklist, Survivor, Amazing Race, Modern Family, The Goldbergs, and The Middle which are all airing new episodes right now.  We will be watching the rest of Mad Men starting this weekend (although DH checked out on this one a long time ago - I'm determined to see it through).  And we are happy that Game of Thrones is starting back up.  Although we have both read the books (see recommendation below) and since George RR Martin cannot get it together to write another book I am disappointed to know that the TV series will be branching away from the books.

Books - Game of Thrones series - this is usually not my genre but the books are really good.  And since they are long this is the perfect time to read them.  I was able to purchase all the books as a block for my Kindle.

A few stand alone novels I read recently that were not bad:  Three Wishes and Big Little Lies (Liane Moriarity); The Girl on the Train (Paula Hawkins); Sea Creatures (Susanna Daniel).  And if you are at all interested in historical / biographical books Unbroken (Laura Hillenbrand) which they now made into a movie.

  • @lawnmom747 I feel like I'm going crazy lol and a part of me is still getting use to this, I'm so used to doing everything by myself. I do a lot of writing and reading that helps pass the time, I play some online games as well, but other than that I feel like an amateur doing this..
  • We go back to the doctor tomorrow and are praying for good news! We are thankful that tomorrow will make another week down and every extra week that we make it right now is amazing. Hopefully we can keep her in for another 4 or 5 weeks! (of course longer would be amazing also)

I've been binge watching blue bloods on netflix and am starting to feel bumbed out and useless. It's hard not being able to do laundry, dishes, cooking, or cleaning. I feel so bad that after a long day of work my hubby has to come home and do all those things while I do nothing. I know that it's all for a good reason but it's still hard.
  • @CillyMama - the book is Hypnobirthing: The Mongan Method. I'm re-reading it and listening to tracks from the CD every night. There are classes but I never took one. My best friend did Hypnobabies and I think the methods have a lot in common from what she describes. It's about training your mind and body to relax and visualize a positive labor experience. There are a bunch of different techniques that get at those goals. Is that what Hypnobabies teaches?

  • Just an update - we had our growth scan toys and LO has gained 1lb1oz in 2 weeks - she is back within normal range for all of her measurements. Her abdominal circumference went from 3rd percentile to 26th percentile!!! Hospital bed rest and stuffing my face with protein rich foods (not my norm) has totally been worth it! Her fluid today was even just over 5! Granted, it varies day by day so I don't think the fluid will stay at 5, but I am hoping her growth stays on track!! New goal of 34 weeks!!
  • When my husband is home we've been watching Friends.  When he's at work I've been watching Scrubs.

I have an appointment tomorrow morning.  I am hoping that we will be discussing whether I will be induced or if the Dr prefers to wait.  This past week I have been experiencing severe bladder pains. The bladder stent has been stabbing my insides due to the baby growing and starting to drop.  Wednesday I have a urology appointment to determine if I should have the bladder stent replaced before our little guy gets here or to just wait it out.

It's hard to go through the nesting phase when you aren't able to do housework.  Fortunately my MIL has been super helpful and has been keeping our house picked up.  Nursery furniture came yesterday and I can't wait until it's up in the nursery and out of the dining room!

Yeah pretty much. Seems like it's the same thing. I just got a hypnobabies MP3 that's supposed to help prevent preterm labor. I don't know if it's working though. I usually end up falling asleep whenever I play the cd's or mp3's.

    ETA: prevent preterm.
  • I had my OB appointment and Urology appointment this morning.

My urologist said that the bladder stent hasn't been working for some time and it should have been replaced at least a couple weeks before now.  The severe pain I am currently experiencing could have been avoided if the original urologist followed through and did the procedure back in March when I was first scheduled.  I will be having surgery as soon as they can fit me in their schedule.  Either way it will be done by the end of next week.

In the meantime I have been put on strict bed rest and have been giving antibiotics to take to prep for the surgery and in case I have any developing infections.

At my OB appointment the Dr has said the baby is doing exactly what he should be doing which is comforting to hear.

Any thoughts and prayers would be greatly appreciated.  I will admit I am more scared for this surgery than when I had it first done in February.  I'll be 36 weeks on Sunday and I just worry something will happen with it being so close to his due date.
  • @mandapanda806 good luck with the surgery - hopefully they can fit you in sooner rather than later! And congrats on almost hitting 36 weeks!!!
  • @mandapanda806 - hope surgery went well and you are feeling better!

  • Thank you! I have surgery tomorrow morning. Hopefully will be home in the afternoon or evening.
  • Update: I had my stent replacement surgery today and it went well! Worst part was the spinal. It took them about 7 tries for them to administer it.

This is the last stent I need. Once our little guy is here then I can begin the process of getting this kidney stone and stent out of me and get back to normal.

I'm sure it's too soon to tell but so far I am feeling much better. I still have some discomfort from the stent but it is much more manageable than what I have been dealing with. Hopefully when I go to the Drs on Thursday they will take me off of some of my restrictions.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers!
