Pelvic Rest and Exercise

I was diagnosed with a SCH after major bleeding earlier this week, so the doctor put my on pelvic rest. I am not supposed to run (I run several times a week), but was wondering what kind of exercise is ok? Are low impact exercises such as yoga and walking OK. I like to stay active, but don't want to bleed out again, obviously.

That's prob a question for your doctor.  We can't give medical advice ! :-)  Since you are on pelvic rest I assume that would mean you need to REST not exercise.  Hope you get better soon :)

  • What Pp said. Talk to your doc. Pretty sure when you are on pelvic rest it means, no excercise, sex, or any form of lifting or strenuous activity. Really you just sit/lay around and only get up to go to the bathroom and eat. Vacuuming the house might even be off limits, but again, call your doctor.

  • Agreed with pp's, ask your doctor. I personally wouldn't risk anything if I were put on pelvic rest. I can exercise after baby comes. Maybe you can try some meditation and breathing exercises rather than yoga for the time being
  • I was diagnosed with a SCH as well. My doctor put me on pelvic rest and told me no running but I can continue exercises like the elliptical or walking. Each doctor is different, though, so you may want to clarify with yours!
  • I had a SCH at 8 weeks and was also put on pelvic rest. Doctor told me I couldn't even vacuum or lift a laundry basket. I would error on the side of caution and hold off on the exercise until you've been cleared by your doctor.
  • No exercise, no sex, no lifting. It's not worth it. I was told pelvic rest but after work I put myself on bedrest. I have a small sch and no bleeding, but it's just not worth the risk of it getting bigger and hurting my LO. I'd hold off on the exercise for sure.
