I have been trying to figure out what are the best baby bottles to purchase & use - Any suggestions?? I plan on breastfeeding as well, so does that make a difference on which bottles the baby may like more??
I used Dr. Brown's glass due to concerns about plastic. I did breastfeed, and Dr. Brown's glass and plastic are both compatible with my Medela PISA. That was the main reason for choosing Dr. Brown's. I did like reviews I'd read about it helping baby with gas/colic, but we never really had issues with that (and also didn't have anything to compare it to). There are some extra parts in the bottles that are supposed to reduce air bubbles/colic. That means a bit more to clean, but it was not a big deal for us.
Aside from pump compatibility, I don't think it otherwise matters what type of bottle you use with breastfeeding babes. They do have the wide mouth bottles that are supposed to be more similar to breast. We tried these too, but DS did not seem to care either way, and those bottles don't fit on my pump. I would recommend using premie nipples to start no matter what. Most bottles come with Level 1 , and the flow can be too fast for a breastfed baby. They either have a tough time handling it OR start to prefer bottles over the boob because they don't have to work as hard to get more milk!
It will depend on your baby, so I wouldn't stock up on one brand yet. Some babies are more picky than others. My sister breastfed and did an occasional bottle.... all 3 boys wanted something different. She asked for a bunch of Dr browns at her shower and her 1st hated them so she had to go buy different ones. Her 2nd didn't like them either. The 3rd ended up rejecting all bottles, but will sip from an open cup.
We got 2 of the 4 Oz new Avent bottles as samples.... so are going to keep those but prepared to buy something different if needed. Or even prepared not to do a bottle if this baby doesn't like them.
I very strongly advise against getting a "gift set" or large quantity of any type of bottle. With both of my kids, we went through a few different kinds before we found one they would take. Of course with my first I insisted on stocking up and having everything washed and ready to go... Well he wouldn't even look at those bottles without screaming. At that point we couldn't even exchange them.
I would buy singles of 3 or so different kinds and see which one baby likes best before splurging on the set.
Eta- and I would absolutely not base my decision on pump compatibility. Your pump will come with bottles and it takes exactly 7 seconds to pour it into a different bottle.
No experience here but I think we are going to try the Tommee Tippee and Lifefactory first. If neither of those work then I guess its back to square one and we'll try a few others. I mainly looked at parent and other reviews but in the end the child is the one that will make the call.
I breastfeed mine.. When I tried to go to dinner we tried so many bottles... Playtex nurser worked for my youngest. My older 3 refused any bottle... Ever.. And would starve till I got back with boob.
Agree with the STM (per usual). One of my friends went through 5 different bottle brands before she could get her son to take a bottle. Babies can be extremely picky.
I got lucky with bottles - we started with Dr. Brown which my son took no problem, and switched him over to Tommee Tippee once he started daycare, also no problem. (Pacifiers however were a different story. We went through a ton to find a brand he'd take)
I used the avent natural with DD and had no problem. I loved them because when I was trying to bf her they kept her latch nice and wide. She always had a great latch.
I bought 6 tommy tippee bottles, filled them all with formula and DS kept falling asleep as they were so tough to suck. So I'd get about 10ml into him and he would be asleep, not good. I had a free sample MAM bottle and he took to it beautifully.
Personally I will be trying tommee tippee but wont go crazy on buying too many just for the exact reason listed above. I love the idea of glass but I am a giant clutz and will be honest - should only use plastic sippy cups myself
I have tried every bottle and my favorites are the avent, Tommee tippee and born free: everyone recommended dr Browns to me and I hated them. Too many parts and they leak
Agree on stocking up on one or two types (just one of each) and seeing what LO likes. We used Dr Browns because I think DD had a little reflux and they seemed to help but they ARE a pain to clean. I hope this baby takes a dishwasher bottle haha...
I've been trying to figure this out! I wanted to go with Dr. Browns, but I keep hearing what a pain it is to wash all of the parts. Has anyone used the Tommee Tippee brand before? Or the Munchkin Latch? I want to go back and forth between breastfeeding and bottles.

Did you even bother to read the thread? There are several ladies who answered that they used tommee tippee and like them. There were also several who said their babies hated them. Hopefully when you go back and read other responses you'll find helpful information like the suggestion to get 1 of a few types of bottles and going from there.
I think I am going to try out the Kiinds twist feeding system first. I am very intrigued by it and it's compatibility with breast pumps. That will be the only system/gift set I register for. If that doesn't work I'll just try different bottles until I find one that works for us! I would rather fill our registery with stuff other than an assortment of cheap little bottles.

I am debating between Dr. Browns and Avent...but I have purchased more Dr. browns ones for now since it is recommended by many of my friends and fit the Madela breat pumps
I have also 3 Avent bottle samples that we got from various goody bag (Motherhood, BBB & Target), so we are just gonna use those to see which brand work better.
We also put a few Tommee on our registry just in case
My co-worker swore by tommee tippee so I am leaning towards that brand, but I also agree to not buy too many of one kind in case your baby doesn't agree.

Yes, I did read the thread. I was curious if any other moms had an opinion. I had to search for this thread and wanted to bring it back to the top. There was no reason to be so snarky. I understand how "annoyed" you are when people don't read over the entire thread, however there were not many moms that stated they have used Tommee Tippee or the latch system. Excuse me for having a question. I asked because I am actually clueless when it comes to bottles and I was hopin for a little clarity to help ease my mind. There was no reason for you to use such a rude tone.
I'm treating between the munchkin bottles and Dr.Browns I think I'll get two of each and see which my baby likes best. I really like the idea of the munchkin bottles because of the moving head anti colic valve and the beast shaped nipple.

I wanna try those too! If you remember share how they work once baby is here!
@alcrimmins pardon my "rude tone", but perhaps it would have been a better idea to tag some of those ladies in the thread who mentioned using the tommee tippee bottles to see what they actually liked about them:) Your question was redundant by asking if anyone used them....they had already answered that they had. I understand being confused my bottles (WHY are there so many different options?!) but your post was not going to get you the answers you were looking for.

Thank you. I will definitely consider that if I have any more questions. I wasn't trying to be annoying earlier. This was the first time I've asked a question that was causing me quite the confusion.
I'm thinking about getting the Kiinde breastfeeding system. It allows you to pump directly into their bags and then the bag fit right onto the bottle system. There are 3 different nipple options for slow, medium and fast flow. The bags are more pricey than the other breastmilk bags bit they are thicker on the sides and I haven't read anything about them leaking. The gift set also includes a special bottle/bag/food warmer that uses hot water to heat-- it takes longer but preserves the nutrients better.

I added some Kiinde stuff to my registry!! They have an awesome deal on Zulily this weekend too!!! It looks so simple - pump into bag, insert bag into plastic kiinde casing.
Breastfeed and don't introduce a bottle at all until bfing is well established.. Shouldn't introduce formula either you don't want to impact your supply or cause nipple confusion

Unfortunately for me (and probably many mommies on here) I have to go back to work, I only get about 6 weeks paid maternity leave -- I may decide to take longer, but it would be unpaid. So I am just trying to find the best system that will allow me to breast feed when I'm with baby and keep breast milk available for my mother in law who will be watching him when me and DH are at work. I've tried to do a lot of research on the best bottles/nipples for breastfeeding babies, but I guess I won't know what baby responds to the best until he is here!

Here's the beauty of it(to me at least), there are so many options out there that you'll find what baby likes in no time! The options are overwhelming, I've only just started looking but it seems that the newer bottles more closely resemble an actual nipple to help avoid the confusion. I plan on buying one in 3-4 different brands to see what peanut responds to best. Good luck!
I'm another Dr. Browns fan! We used the plastic ones. I agree that the extra parts are kind of a pain to wash, but totally worth it in my opinion. My ds had acid reflux and some other issues and it seemed to really help him. He hated the advent bottles! Pick up a few singles as everyone has said. Baby will tell you what they do and don't like.
We used Playtex Drop-ins last time around-- a lot less to clean, and the liners are recyclable. Looks like the options have changed quite a bit too. Not sure what the new little guy is going to like.

I don't agree with this at all. Actually my fear about "nipple confusion" was a complete waste of anxiety... Maybe for some babies but certainly not all.... I refused the pacifier in the hospital and will not make that mistake again as it proved to be so helpful in soothing my baby... He had no nipple confusion whatsoever and took to the breast and bottle fine and the pacifier when I finally was like let me try this for him! This kind of strict advice places such unnecessary stress on women and is really a "baby by baby" situation.

I think this is a really old thread.
I will most likely have to introduce a bottle and formula after birth bc I was diagnosed with GD. Formula helps get the baby's blood sugar regulated. So I agree that some books make you feel like a complete failure when you are just trying to do what is best for baby.
Opinion wanted ( and shame on me but I didn't read through the really old posts)...anyone have suggestions on glass bottles?
