2cm dilated at 35 weeks!

I just got done with my 35 week check up, and I was told I was 2cm dilated already my due date isn't till May 6th. My OB seemed like it was no biggie, but as FTM it kinda worries me... Plus doesn't help I haven't even had my baby shower (it's suppose to April 12th)

Any other moms walked around dilated and for how long?

Re: 2cm dilated at 35 weeks!

  • I know s girl that walked around at 4cm for at least 2 weeks

  • Okay that nice to hear, I can't have him come earlier than his due date being that his dad will still be out of town, so fingers crossed on him staying in the full ride!

I believe effacement is more important than dilation . (Correct me if I'm wrong ladies!)I was a 1-2 for 3-4 weeks and a 4 for several days before I had dd. Hope everything goes well for you! :)

  • Yes you are right about the effacement and I forgot to type that in as well, but right now my baby is effaced and is sitting super low in the pelvis... My OB says he's an average size baby
  • I know my friend was 2cm 5 weeks before she actually delivered. I think it's no problem.
  • I was 1cm at 36 weeks and didn't go into labor till 39 1/2 weeks.

  • I just got the same news. Due date is May 6th as well. My doctor still set my induction date for the 29th and this is my second so she obviously thinks I'll have no problem carrying until then. I wouldn't worry too much!

  • My doc said I was 50% thinned out and 0cm. I just had my 35wk appt yesterday. He said it doesn't matter, as long as I didn't come in dilated to 6cm! Bc then, he would send me to L&D
  • You're 20% there! Haha. yeah it doesn't mean you will go early which is good in your case. You can walk around like that for weeks.

  • I'm dilated to 3 and 50% effaced at 28 weeks, now 32 weeks and no baby :)
  • I'm 36 weeks 2cm and feel fine doc doesn't seem worried so I wouldn't stress.
  • I was 3-4 cm with my third at 34 weeks and didn't have him till 39 weeks 4 days. After the dr striped my membranes. You can be dialated for a long time before you go into labor.
  • I have my 35 week checkup tomorrow morning & I've been wondering if he will check to see if I'm dilated. Guess I will find out!

This is my 3rd pregnancy and have my appointment tomorrow. As for the last time I went in I wasn't even dialated. (@33wks) now 2 days shy of 36 due date may 2nd. I think with my first I was 1-2 cm dialated and didn't go until 3 days after my due date, you should be fine! But each pregnancy is different so the LO will come when it's ready!
  • I was 50% effaced with a soft cervix when I went in earlier this week at 33 weeks. I'd had some contractions the day before 3 mins apart for a couple hours that fizzled out. My FFN came back negative, which means there's a 99% likelihood that I will NOT go into labor in the next two weeks. Phew!

Unfortunately, dilation, effacement, and station are no indication of timeframe. It's sort of a mind f**k. With DD I walked around 3cm dilated, 80% effaced, and -1 station for 3 weeks before she was born. The whole time I thought it was going to be any day!

  • You need all three numbers to be right to deliver. Station, dial action and effacement like PP said. Women can walk around dial aged for a while, others can go from 0 to ready in no time. 2 cm is no indication of anything. Follow your dr lead and try not to worry about it.
