Parenting after 35

FTM - intro

Hi all :)

I'm 35 and had my first baby, a boy, last week.  DH is 43, and we live in Houston, TX.  I'm already feeling the hormonal roller coaster and could certainly use some company!  DS was a little bit jaundiced but is OK now, thankfully.  There's so much to adjust to.  Some days it seems like I have things under control, others I'm just overwhelmed.

I recognize some names from PG>35.  I hope to join you here.  Looking forward to getting to know you all.

  • Welcome over here!! Did you post your baby story? I need to run check. Yay!!

We are not as talkative over here like we were in the other group. I guess bc we all mostly have littles to run after. But so glad to see you over here. .

  • Welcome!! Yay, so happy for you!! It takes awhile to find your groove, hang in there and we're here for you! This board can be slow but we all jump up to help each other out when needed.

It's going to take a good year for your body to work through all of the pregnancy hormones, so don't start feeling like you're a freak of nature and do talk about it if you feel icky or overwhelmed. I went through two episodes of losing tons of hair, and now almost 16 months pp I am getting a bunch of funny little baby hairs growing back in. It looks hilarious. There's just so much nobody tells you to expect so come to us whenever you need to vent or ask a question or just commiserate!

Congratulations on your baby and welcome/nice to meet you!

You're not at all alone in feeling overwhelmed. Babies are a lot of work. But its also so amazing seeing this little person grow and change (and become more person-ish and endearingly adoring). Hang in there!

  • Congratulations and welcome!  Before the bump made changes we were slow and now after it seems to be slower because a lot of people jumped ship.  Those that remain, myself included, aren't on morning noon and night so it is on the slower side.  But as Guennie said we are a very nice group of women who are here to support one another.

Good Luck and welcome to the rollercoaster that is motherhood :)

@ Guennie- I had to laugh when you talked about hair loss.  I had a formal function to go to last night and was trying to do my hair. The breakage in the front of my head looked like I was a 4 year old who tried to cut my own hair.  Yeah, good times~!!!

  • Congrats and welcome. Sounds pretty normal with the emotional roller coaster.
