Job interview 9 months pregnant?

Hello ladies! I've never written anything on here before, but a little bit about me.. Im 38 weeks pregnant and working a miserable job that I despise. I just got a job a call to set up an interview for my dream job. Should I disclose over the phone that im very pregnant, or wait until the actual interview and she can see for herself? I feel deceiving not telling her over the phone but I also don't want to be discriminated against before she even meets me. Any advice?

Re: Job interview 9 months pregnant?

  • I think I would tell them over the phone that you're pregnant so you and them do not waste there time because they might be shocked when you arrive at the interview. That's my personal opinion. I hope that they don't care and will still give you a chance and that you get it. Keep us updated!

  • I had a job interview when I was 34 weeks pregnant. I just went in. Honestly, if you are a good candidate, being pregnant shouldn't matter, and they shouldnt need to be "warned." During my interview I let them know how far along I was, and the interviewer assured me that it eouldn't be a problem.

    Good luck with your interview!
  • I agree with @AmandaDCarroll. It shouldn't matter that you're pregnant as long as you're a good candidate for the position.
The only time I would tell them beforehand is if it's for an immediate position, but then again at this far along you shouldn't be applying for those.
    Good luck!
  • just throwing this in here that it is illegal for them to ask you about being pregnant, and to discriminate against hiring you based off you being pregnant. Having said that, good luck! fingers crossed you get it!! it really shouldn't matter if you're the best fit candidate that's it. let us know how it goes!!
  • I would mention it in advance just in case you go into labor and need to move the interview date at the last minute.

If an employer doesn't hire you on the basis of pregnancy then the employer will probably get creative and won't say that is why you weren't hired. It will probably be impossible to prove that your pregnancy was why you were not hired. But who wants to work in a place that is not accommodating to pregancy and parenthood in general? I don't!

I wish you the best of luck.... I hope you get the job!
  • I would wait until you show up. Over the phone they'd still say it's no problem anyway since it would be discrimination if they told you not to bother interviewing bc of a pregnancy. Good luck and we're all hoping you get the job!!!!
  • I would tell them in person! I like the above poster who gave you advice to say "As you can see, I'm currently expecting..."

Let them meet and interview you. Give yourself the best chance.

  • Congrats!!!!!
  • Congratulations that is awesome!
  • Good for You!  I hope everything goes smoothly with the new job!

  • Congrats! That is great news!
  • Congratulations!
  • I would tell them in person so that they don't make a decision before you even get the chance to blow them away. It is illegal for them not to hire you because of your pregnancy, but that doesn't mean they can't just find a 'better' candidate.
Go in confident and with a plan. You got this!
