I'm hosting an Easter Egg Hunt at my house for DH's family. We usually do a BBQ or ham dinner, but this year I'm just too tired. So we will have it at 2 pm with appetizers and dessert.
The next day we are going to my IL's club for their Easter Egg Hunt and buffet. It should be fun. Usually, I hate buffets because of my Celiac disease. Dh's cousin and uncle both have Celiac disease, and his Aunt is the type that will call and figure out everything that we can eat before hand Dh's other uncle usually does his own Hunt and goes crazy with the candy. Like full size candy bars. It's so over the top and also nerve racking because my son has a nut allergy.
What is everyone doing for Easter Baskets for older kids?
I bought some books from Usborne books (my friend sells them), one is about gardening and the other is a science experiment book for kids. I also bought some kid gardening tools and seeds. The only candy my kids are getting are a few pieces of Lindt candy and gum. And a few jellybeans that I will put in their eggs.
DH and I are taking a 6 hour bus ride (yuck!) to a beautiful old European city (sorry to be paranoid about Internet details) so he can drink the local beer. We are spending three nights away, and it's something he's really been wanting to do since we first moved to Europe. Normally I plan our trips, but this is his weekend and I haven't looked up a single thing about the city. We will just wander and eat and drink, because he hates itineraries and attractions (weirdo!). This year has been all about Me, so we are both excited to make him the focus this weekend!
Resting, Holy Week church services if my headaches will stay away for the weekend. @amark11 3 nights away sounds so nice! I would be wanting that beer though....! @laurendutch love your Easter ideas for your kids. My moms Easter baskets are still something I remember that I loved even now as an adult!!!!
We are going camping for the weekend which hopefully won't be the first and last time all year. But with a new baby we will have to just wait and see what happens. Taking our fur baby and I am really excited to get out of the house and enjoy some nature.
Unfortunately I will be working on easter. I started a new job back in November and just assumed we had it off cause every job I've worked I've always had it off so I didn't bother to ask off for that day. Only to find out last week that we are still open. Who gets a massage on easter lol people should be out cooking and hunting eggs lol
Hoping it's not freezing out! Plan to go to an Easter egg hunt on Saturday with DS and then Easter will be spent with my family.... We will do an indoor egg hunt in the morning in pajamas which is always fun:)
Sorry! I made the post and then ran away to do some online shopping. haha.
We're traveling to see my family. It'll be the first time in almost a year we're making the 6 hr drive. It'll be awesome with my 2 y/o son and me needing to pee 2x every hour.. LOL but we knew it'll be the last time we travel before this little girl comes.
Then Monday we'll be home and I took the day off to have a painter come to do the kids' bedrooms!
We go to my husband's grandma's farm (about an hour away) for a giant easter egg hunt on Saturday. She hides 10 eggs per person... which is over 300 eggs. It's awesome! Sunday we will go to mass and then we go to my mom's house for ham and a smaller scale egg hunt. Should be a good weekend for the kiddo!
We're going to church, then to DH'S great aunt and uncle's house for lunch. After that we'll head to his aunt's house to watch all his little cousins hunt eggs. Kinda bummed about not seeing my family but we live 2 hours away and can't make it to both so we alternate years for Christmas and Easter.
A last minute decision was made to all converge on my house. So I'll be spending Saturday cleaning! I'm pretty much in the middle for my brother and my dad. My brother was all about hosting Easter every year because he's got a bunch of land he can hide eggs on, but it would be too long of a drive for my dad and stepmom for just the afternoon. I don't really mind though, since it looks like everyone's bringing food, and I just have to stick a ham in the oven for biscuits. And lord knows there's plenty of leaves in my backyard to bury eggs in for the kids!
We're headed back to my parents house to celebrate with my sisters' family. So excited to spend the weekend with them coloring eggs, cooking food, and watching the cousins play.
For the Easter baskets (ages 2&3) I did books, water color paints, hair clips, cups with silly straws, and a couple plastic eggs with candy.
Easter on hospital bedrest will consist of my husband picking up cracker barrell (the epitome of "home cookin" Easter food that isn't home cooked) and having Easter dinner with me in my hospital room. Woohoo lol.
We have no plans and I'm so excited! Lol. My FIL's birthday is Saturday, so we'll see them then. I'm so exhausted. This has been a very tiring week at work. I have tomorrow off abc may stay in PJs all day!
I'm gonna try to work on Ewok's room with hubby. Normally he does not work his 2nd job when he is off Sundays from the CG because he has two bowling leagues he is in on those Sundays, but because of Easter the lanes will be closed so he'll have a whole day with no commitments. If I can get him to move the established furniture out of there then the stuff I need him for will be done (well, and bring up the boxes with the crib and changing table). Other than that its a sleep late and Xbox day.
DD s 5th birthday party is Saturday woot!! Church Sunday and thankfully its a family church and I don't have to worry about hosting anything. I just don't feel like it anymore and two events in one weekend would probably lay me out.
No plans yet! We can't go back to our hometown to celebrate with our immediate families because DH is an accountant and has to work on Saturday (yay tax season! If it weren't for Easter, he'd be working Sunday, too - he's had 1 day off in the last month). DH does have family in the area (grandma and some aunts), so we're hoping that one of them calls us up to invite us over for Easter dinner, but we don't want to just invite ourselves in case they're not doing anything, and our apartment is too small for us to host everyone ourselves. So, as of right now, just Easter mass and homework! It's okay though - if this was Christmas I'd be pretty bummed about these plans but I've never really been that into Easter.
Planning on touring labor and delivery at the hospital we will be having baby P at then heading into the DH's office to get our taxes done. I refuse to get the internet at my house. Im scared to death to let them have internet access. The library is two blocks away when they need it for school.
Oye...it is always an headache to plan out one day of holidays. Timmy's both parents are remarried so... I told Timmy he doesn't have to come to my church in morning. 1. Church 2. MIL 3. FIL 4. My family
We talked about for holidays when baby is born...it is gonna be difficult.
It's my holiday on even though it's my weekend off ( so I'm working Saturday and Sunday night. Going to a brunch on Sunday at 2:30 so at least I get to sleep for 4 or 5 hours after work and going to eat to my hearts content. The only downside..no unlimited mimosas for me, then back to work. Oh well! Wishing you all a great holiday if you celebrate it.

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
We had to skip Maundy Thursday service last night due to illness. Really disappointing.
Today, we're getting the final things cleaned up for staging our house (we put it on the market this week!), picking up DH's sister and grilling out tonight. We always go to Good Friday service so I'm disappointed about that, too, but I'm glad we're spending quality family time with his folks.
Saturday, his whole family will be in town and we're doing a coed sprinkle. (I'm going to try and get them to let me do the dishes afterward since playing with sudsy water is my therapy right now.)
Sunday, we're going to Easter services then celebrating his grandma's 85th birthday with the whole family.
Tons of work/cleaning left to do before we can have a fun, celebratory weekend.
On Sunday (in case we don't have another Easter post) for those who celebrate: Christ has risen!

Would it be easiest to have everyone come to your house to celebrate for future holidays? After a few years, my parents starting doing that with my brother and me. Any chance that's a possibly?
I can't speak for @kherman14 but my experience is that the remarried or divorced folks don't especially like hanging out at the same place at the same time! Although I think we already put it out there that we will probably host Thanksgiving this year instead of traveling and they all may need to suck it up like adults and come see us!

Same here... my in-laws are divorced and I'm pretty sure that if I suggested that they spend Easter together they'd both kill me, and then they'd kill each other haha. That being said, once DD arrives, they're going to have to accept that they'll need to spend SOME time together if they want to be there for big events in her life. Sorry, but we're not doing separate birthday parties, baptism celebrations, etc... they're just going to have to deal with each other's presence and focus on their granddaughter!
DH is joining the church on Saturday night at Easter Vigil. So excited/blessed that we can start celebrating Mass together in its fullest! (Perfect timing with the baby coming. God is good!)
We're going to hubby's grandma's. Since Easter falls on her birthday this year I'm baking a milk cake to be layered with sugared strawberries and topped with homemade whipped cream I love baking so I'm really looking forward to it!
We will have DDs Easter basket at our home in the morning DH like to make a trail of eggs and stuff to the actual basket. Then in the afternoon DD and I are headed 2 hours away to my sisters house for an Easter egg hunt and dinner. DH has work in the evening.
DDs Easter basket has a choc bunny, peeps, sidewalk chalk, and bubbles.

This year has been all about Me, so we are both excited to make him the focus this weekend!
