time off

how much time is your S/O taking off? Originally my husband took 10 days, the day before my c section (4/3), the 4 days in the hospital and my first 5 days home.
But now he is picking up days here and there. He is the sole provider for our family, and I appreciate all the hours he works. But I was hoping to have a little time with him out of the hospital with our son and our new addition.

Re: time off

  • My hubby is taking about 2 weeks. I think paternity leave only pays them 55% and the first week is a waiting period so no check for the first week for them (which sucks)

  • My husband is military so they get 10 days, but it's consecutive days, not 10 weekdays. So weekends and holidays are counted in those 10, which is why we're hoping she arrives after Easter, even though tomorrow is my due date. We don't want this free 4 day weekend to become a part of his paternity leave!
  • My husband is taking a week off. That includes our hospital stay. But if I need him home longer than that he does have the option of working from home as long as he doesn't have any meetings.
  • My husband gets a week and then half days the second week. He works from home though so it's a bit different.
  • My husband gets 2 weeks off. My brother in law, however, is getting 14 weeks off for his baby!! So jealous!
  • He is taking 2 weeks...unpaid bc he is out of vacation time until June.

My husband and I are in the process of growing a new company and it is our busy season so he won't be taking much time off. He will work from home for a bit though. I just need time to figure out the balance of caring for a newborn and keeping my daughters current school/social schedule organized. Thankfully summer break is coming up soon!

    BFP: 8/23/14 - Due 4/28/15  - It's a BOY!
  • Originally it was 11 days. However, he is now supposed to attend an orientation session the last 2 days of his leave. It is super lame because he did his residency (3 years) there and has worked there for 8 months now. I guess it's better than the 1.5 days off he had with our other 2 kids.
  • My husband is able to take 3 weeks off. I am very thankful for this and excited for this chance to get settled in as a family. I just worry about how hard it will be on me when he goes back because I will have learned to depend on his help.
  • 1 week paid for mine...sad the husbands don't get more time. With time in the hospital and all it really isn't anything!!

For #1 and #2 he was working from the hospital while I was being induced...he took a few days off after the babies were born and came home, but he was back to work nearly full time within a week both times.  He is in IT and can do a lot remotely.  He was answering work emails and taking work calls all the time.

    I hate it.

He is the breadwinner, so I deal with it.

He did have the flexibility to leave early or go in late on rough days - but he did not take a solid x weeks off paternity leave.

This time the plan is the same...but he will take 2 full weeks of "working from home" at the end of my 12w maternity leave so #3 won't have to start daycare until closer to 4m old.

  • My husband doesn't get paternity leave so he's just taking his week vacation after all of our family leaves since he knows he won't be as needed while the grandmas are here.
  • My husband just switched to a new company two weeks ago. It's a great company and they knew we were pregnant and he would be taking off when they hired him. But he is still the new guy so he is only planning to take 3 - 5 days off depending on when I go into labor. He is hoping I go into labor midweek. As a FTM I am a little nervous about whether I will be ready to handle it alone so quickly.
  • My husband is in school and works at the hospital I will deliver at 3 -12s a week. He can't miss his clinicals or labs and lecture, but he can take time off from work, he gets up to 12 weeks unpaid, but would need to use pto to cover our benefits. So my mom is taking several days off to help bc he doesn't finish the semester till May. I am looking forward to his summer break and spending a lot of family quality time with our 4 and 1/2 yo son and new little guy!
  • He is the bread winner and we used up a lot of vacation time he had when we went to Texas on vaca this fall. We are hoping she will come mid week so he will be home.at least 1 day after we get home from the hospital.
  • My husband gets a week of sick and then he's taking 1-2 weeks in addition. Lucky for us, I have/can take sick days to finish out the school year and still keep my paycheck (and 5 paychecks in the summer), so we will not be living on solely his income.
  • My husband is a realtor and this is his busy time. I am pretty sure he will be taking calls from the hospital. But since he works for himself he has a flexible schedule and can work from home at times.
