Bathing alone at 2-3 years old?

Someone I work with was talking about how it is so nice to be able to leave her 2.5 year old in that bath and do other things while he plays in the tub.  I was pretty surprised.  That just seems too young to me.  It's one thing to walk out of  the room to get something and be gone for a minute.  I just couldn't do that.  Bring a book and read while DC plays, but not leave the room!

  • my mom used to fold socks while we splashed around.  I agree, that is too young.  I would think 4 or 5 is where I would let them bath alone.

  • I've had several people mention leaving young kids/toddlers in bath tubs and going to do things in another room. I am always shocked by this. It is so dangerous!!! I don't even take my eyes off my 4 1/2 yr. old niece when she take a bath here. It only takes a second for something TRAGIC to happen.
  • You know, I am not even considering drowning. I am thinking of a toddler wondering what it would be like to stand on the soap...use a razor...fish around under the sink for stuff...anything that could happen with the creativity of a 2 year old!
  • I wouldn't allow it.  Anything can happen.  I think I would use the time to catch up on some reading or bring my laptop into the bathroom with me.  No way would I leave DS at that young of an age.
  • My thoughts exactly!  I remember my mom folding laundry while we were in the tub.  She would sit right there on the toilet seat.
  • Whoa. This makes me really sad. Most people don't know that drowing is SILENT. It's not like in the movies where kids thrash about and make a racket. Ugh. I'm shuddering thinking about it.
