seeing floaters?

I am 17 weeks along and for the past 3 days I have been seeing a lot of floaters and from time to time I get so dizzy and feel like I could faint. I called my ob and she sounded very worried and wants me to come in tomorrow. Has anyone experienced this?

Re: seeing floaters?

  • I have this and wasn't able to see my doc. The doctor I saw thought it could be from a couple of things, I was fighting a bug and my body is already taxed, my blood pressure drops or baby is sitting on the main artery. I see my doctor tomorrow to see. I almost passed out at work today, get dizzy, then really hot, I know I better sit or else. It happened to me driving another time too.

  • Oh my, I hope they figure out what is causing this, that would be very scary feeling like this while driving. Hugs to you momma and I hope all goes well tomorrow.
  • Yes! I get this, don't know why - haven't thought to tell my dr - also had it last pregnancy
  • I had issues with this in my last pregnancy and it was blood pressure related. My OB told me that it can be an early sign of preeclampsia, so it would probably be a good idea to see your doctor just to make sure you're not on that path. It's not dangerous for the baby, but can become dangerous for you if not managed.
  • I have recently started having my blood pressure drop away without warning (3 times in the past 10 days). I get really hot and clammy, my vision goes black and I've been lucky not to have passed out. I'm a teacher so it's hard to lay down! I have to just sit and wait for it to pass. My doctor said that there's not much I can do about it, but to try adding a bit more salt to my diet (apparently this helps thicken my blood and helps keep blood pressure stable - as long as you don't go overboard!). He's not worried about it, he just warned me to spot the signs and sit before I fall.
It's a horrendous feeling. I hope this doesn't last the rest of the pregnancy, for either of us!
  • I've had it with my 2 children and both times it was the onset of preeclampsia

You can see floaters with very high or very low blood pressure. Hence your provider's concern.

When do the floaters occur? Sitting? Standing? Often you can feel faint because of low blood sugar too. Try to snack with protein + sugar. So like, yogurt covered raisins & pretzels etc.

If you stay hydrated, keep your sugars level & get up slowly then there shouldn't be too much worry.

i just went to the doctor for this. It was because i was very dehydrated from hyperemesis. i increased my water and floaters went away.
  • Has anyone been tested for anemia? When I see little lights floating when I get up, for me it usually means anemia. I also almost fainted twice. Once in the street with my dd alone. So yes it can be a scary feeling.
  • Floaters and dizziness is a sign of blood pressure issues. It's a good thing she has you coming in and good you called her! Even if it turns out you're fine they will want to monitor it more closely
