The upside of insomnia

Ok, I know, insomnia really does bite the big one, but....what are some of the upsides?

For me I get to see how beautiful the moon is, hear how quiet my house can be, and run through my list of to do's like 32 times in my head.

At least my dog keeps me company. I think he's secretly thinking I will actually feed him at 3:30 in the morning....keep hoping pal!

  • I woke up at 4:45, and was up until 7:30 when my husband got up. Drifted off for a few minutes, which ended up making me late for today's OB appt. I HATE IT.
  • My insomnia usually comes in the form of not being able to fall asleep for a long time (like, hours) and waking up much earlier than needed (like, hours). So for me the bonuses are I get to read in bed for 2 or so hours with it nice and dark and the house quiet all around me (bonus if its during the summer and we have one of those nights with a nighttime thunderstorm or rain), and the soft bulk of one of my kitties (usually Samurai) somewhere on the bed. The times I wake up early its usually just before dawn. I LOVE watching the world wake up. How the sky lightens. The birds start to sing. Its so quiet with regards human made noise (no cars, or overloud stereoes). I just really dig the early morning. Should my early awakenings continue to plague me as we move closer to summer and the weather gets warmer, I may just get out of bed and go sit outside with a breakfast snack and have a front row seat. Provided I don't need a jacket, like I still do now...

  • Upside it's the kid moving around that wakes me up, so kid is still alive other than that though not so many benefits.
  • I guess this all depends on how long you've been suffering from insomnia and and to what degree. I've got a mild case of it right now. Mine goes in phases. I'm only on a two day stretch right now and staying awake for about three hours at a time. I know a lot of you ladies have more serious bouts of it. For that I'm sorry. I hope you can get some sleep soon. ❤️
  • @lovethatcolosun per the mantra thread, I'm also a big believer in finding the silver linings. Thank you for trying!
  • My upside is that I get up and work on reports so I feel somewhat productive...
  • I cant fall asleep so I get to catch up on missed tv shows since having teenagers pretty much means no tv for adults Until bed time. Oh and DH stays up with me a lot and that's sweet.
  • No upside for me either. By the time I do get to sleep I only have a couple hours at best before it's time to get ready for work. Maybe when my maternity leave starts I will find a positive but until then it sucks!!
