Baby bathtubs?

FTM here and preparing to register. What are your opinions on infant bathtubs? Suggestions? TIA! :-)

Re: Baby bathtubs?

  • Oooh very good topic! I've been asking my mom friends about which brand/type is best! Most of them say whatever is fine...... And aren't really opinionated so I'm curious?

  • Im looking at the Fisher Price Rinse N Grow Bath Tub and it looks pretty cool. It has a sling for the infant which can be removed once they csn sit up on their own. From reviews it appears safe. Curious to see what others say!

    This is what I got!

  • I just registered last night at BRU with a good friend who is the mom of two and she highly suggested the Euro bath. She did a lot of research and find great reviews. she has been very happy with it. It can be used from 0-24 months.
  • I bought a bloom bath it looks like a flower they sit in, in the sink!

Don't those take forever to dry? Have you tried it out? I wanted one but was afraid it would hold water and smell.... They look so comfy though! Not to mention adorable lol
  • A good friend who just had a baby a month ago said the midwife came over to help her with the first bath. She put a washcloth on baby's belly and made sure her feet were touching the bottom of the tub (laying down position, obviously). And this made baby feel secure, so no crying issues.

Like @klkonwi I have also heard from friends that tub doesn't matter-- so I just plan to get the cheapest one with good ratings

I had much fancier tub with my first child but ended up preferring a simple cheap bath sling. They are smaller and easier to store, dry a lot faster, and do exactly what you need them to do!

My friend who just had a baby loves hers! I registered for one. Not sure how long it takes to dry, but she said it holds warmth, so it helps baby stay warm the entire bath since they're laying on it.
  • I'm not so much worried about the drying out but what if you have a major blowout and need to wash poopy baby in that thing?

Can it be bleached effectively like a tub with a harder material? My mom brought that up and asked me what I was really going to use it for, so I changed to the Puj.

Someone has bought it off our registry, and now I'm reading that it doesn't hold its shape in the sink.

    Oy.

    STMs- what do you say?
  • As a STM, I think baby baths are a waste of money and space. You can just as easily cleanse your baby with a washcloth outside of a tub, which saves water, time, and backache.
  • Lucie's List recommends this as the "go to" tub. Highly rated and simple and inexpensive! We are getting it in pink for LO: https://www.amazon.com/The-First-Years-Infant-Toddler/dp/B000067EH7

Instead of the sling I put the foam pad in it.. Bc it was warm & kept a rag on their belly..

It lasted through 4 children and I loved it. I thought I was done so I got rid of it. But as a mother of soon to be 5 ..I can say this was my go to. ( also kept the heat on during their baths. I would sweat but they didn't flip out)

That's the one we have and it worked great!

We ordered the Puj, too many, and found exactly that, that it doesn't hold it's shape if your sink is deep. We bought it for the kitchen so we can stand up and use the sprayer, but our sink is very deep - so we put a pot in the sink upside down to take up vertical space, and it seems to do the trick. Not ideal maybe, but MH and I were both too lazy to return it, so this seems like a workable solution. We'll see! He'll be in the regular bath relatively soon.

We have this one and loved it. Works for a long time and it's a fraction of the cost. The Puj might be great for a tiny baby or if you have a really bad back and need to stand to wash them but I can't imagine using it with a larger baby, they want to splash around and play in a real bath pretty quickly. This one let's you ditch the sling around 3 months and let them do that while keeping them safe. I do love all the baby stuff that looks like it should be at the MOA but in this case the big plastic one is the way to go IMO. FTM's perhaps consider making baby baths your partners job if possible, it's one task they can do for you in the early days. They feel useful, you get a short break. I imagine I'll be doing 80-90% of the care for this newborn but I won't be bathing him! DH will pick out any bath supplies he wants.

  • I registered for the boon collapsible tub.
  • I registered for the 4moms tub. I'm a sucker for their products. I mostly liked the thermometer gauge (I use near scalding temperatures for my own showers, and in turn end up making babies baths too cold because I'm paranoid) and the fact that it drains out poop or pee filled water without emptying the tub. That being said..I've used the plain fisher price baths and they work fine.
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • We have the fisher price "whale of a tub" for DS1. He is almost 20 mo old (though on the smaller size for length/wt) and still uses it. It's been great for us from his first bath on. Instead of a sling, it has an insert that supports newborns and infants in a reclined/seated position. And it's pretty inexpensive as well.
  • Registered for the 4moms I like the fact it has a built in thermometer though everyone says it's unnecessary I think it's a good ideal as a FTM. However I also registered for a cheaper fisher price one too because really anything will do.
