For breastfeeding moms, how long before you left the house?

I have a 16 month old daughter and will have twins soon. I plan to breastfeed exclusively, if possible. So I am wondering if anyone in a similar position could tell me when they first left their house. Just trying to be realistic in my planning. Thanks.

  • Great question! My DS is 2 and I have the same intentions to breastfeed. Looking forward to responses.

  • As in left the house with both children? I only have twins but I left my house with both boys (and my mother) when they were 3 weeks old because they had doctors appointments. We were out for an entire afternoon and I breastfed both of them a couple of times each (not tandem though). The first time i took them out by myself they were 6 weeks old and we went to the store and a mom's group.

  • In honestly find it super hard to breastfeed outside the house, so I pump and give them bottles while out, unless you are spending the day at let's say a friends house or something
  • Mine are 13 weeks and I have never left the house with them alone. With my husband, the first time was 2 weeks old for doctor appointment. For pleasure, the first time was probably 8 weeks.

  • I went to a weekly lactation class with them alone (starting at about week 3) which was nice since feeding them was not an issue. I had a hard time nursing out of the house because it was just a mess and I was more comfortable just doing it at home, so we would go for walks immediately after they nursed (I also couldn't tandem feed, Alexandra HATED it). And a few times that first month I would put them in the twin weego carrier and we would go for a walk to an outdoor restaurant and have a glass of wine or sandwich, or run an errand within walking distance.

Not going to lie - I was pretty damn tired and unmotivated to go for walks or outings, but others (husband, sister, mom) would encourage it to get us all out.
