Measuring "small end of normal"

Hi ladies. I am 37 weeks tomorrow and at my recent appointment I asked about my measurements because everyone always comments on how small I look. The doc says I am fine, just "the small end of normal". Anyone else have this? I am really tall - 5'10" and had a lot of nausea as well as chasing my 3 year old son during this pregnancy. Food was definitely more of a challenge. I am just hoping all is well in there. Doc wasn't concerned so I know I shouldn't be...any thoughts?

Re: Measuring "small end of normal"

  • I'm almost 39 weeks and measuring a lil over 35 weeks if dr is concerned they will send you in for an us to check in baby at your next appt let dr know you are really concerned but when I did my us at 36 weeks because I was really small and not gaining weight baby girl measured big so everyone carries baby differently don't worry baby is most likely fine and toy will stress yourself out more than anything

  • I measured small with my first to and barely in normal with this one... My first has a small head, and they kept doing us throughout the pregnancy to make sure that she was falling into "normal" even though I wasn't! She is now a healthy 4 year old, still has a small head, and very tall and slender! I would say there is nothing to worry about, especially because you're actually measuring within normal!

  • I've measured small all pregnancy too but he's healthy so the doctor doesn't seem worried. I definitely did not put on the same weight this time around because of stress and chasing a 4yo!
  • I wasn't measuring small but, my belly is so little the doctor sent us for an ultrasound at 36wk and 3d to check baby's size. She measured 5lbs 14oz and it's just heads down so far in to the birthing cavity it made my belly look smaller
  • With my first I measured consistently 2 weeks behind and my second 1 week behind.  My MWs said it was still in the normal range, so they never did further testing.  DD and DS were both born at 40w3d, perfectly healthy weighing 7lb15oz and 8lb12oz, so measuring small didn't seem to affect my two kiddos :)

I was told the same thing, I was measuring 1 week behind and I guess still am. Baby was 5lbs 8oz at 36 weeks I think it was? I had them do an us because I wanted to know his weight and all that since no one had ever bothered telling me! Which is a good sign when they dont tell you but I still would have liked to at least been informed. I have also been told that these measurements are not always percise. Someone told me their baby was measuring small and were told they were only going to have a 6lb baby and it came out 8lbs and 6oz or something close to that. So I would just take it with a grain of salt and try not to worry. I hope this helps :)
  • The small end of normal is still normal. Someone has to be on the smaller end of normal. I would be concerned if she was measuring small, but not the small end of normal.

  • Thank you for your reassurance! I especially appreciate hearing how things have worked out well for those of you who have been in my shoes and delivered healthy babes :)
