Workout F U N K

I am 9w1d and my fitness has suffered GREATLY since about 6w. I am an NPC competitor as well as a fitness instructor and coach. I figured my energy would be low but this is a WHOLE different lion. I'm not even motivated to workout. I NEED my ME time back desperately.

Any mommas in 2nd or 3rd have the same thing? Did it get better? If I don't get it back I may kill my fiancé before this baby is born. I kid but seriously.

Re: Workout F U N K

  • Until I hit about 10.5 weeks I was the same I laid around wanting to do nothing, and I am a marathon runner who works out everyday. Now that I'm heading into my 2nd I'm feeling a lot better and getting back to the gym (not everyday but at least 3-4 times a week) Definitely getting that energy back! Just give it a couple weeks!

  • Same thing. 12 w today and was hoping for a reprieve. I'm grossly out of shape and today's barre class made me want to barf. I need my workouts...looking forward to a second tri

  • With DD, I ended up with a stress fracture in my foot for like 8-10 weeks mid-first and into second trimester. I thought my mental strength suffered the most! I couldn't run and other stuff didn't do the job. Take that compounded with extreme fatigue, and my motivation had gone out the window.

This time around, I'm 9w5d and yesterday had to be a rest day (unplanned) because I was just so. damn. tired. So I hear ya!! Can you adjust your workout schedule to allow for more rest days or add sleep anywhere? I promise you that they aren't lying when they say there is a rebound of energy in the second trimester (don't expect it to magically drive you to the gym, but it's there!). You're SO close to that time. See what you can do to schedule that time each day. NO ONE I know has ever regretted going to the gym or getting their workout in ;) I know, based on what you've said, you'll feel the same!! You've got this! Just remember how great it feels to get an amazing leg day in or a strong upper body workout (back and bi, anyone?)!

As I write this, I am about to head out the door to the gym. Would I rather take a nap? Yep. But I KNOW that in an hour or so when I am on my way home, I am going to be so much happier and in a better place mentally. I will be a better wife at dinner with my hubby, and a better mommy to my 19-month old who is full of energy! @FitMomma402, the only thing you'll be killin' is your next workout. You will rock it!!

  • I've been forcing myself to walk with the dog...it's been a challenge. I'm still exhausted all the time.
  • I'm a former competitor too and felt exhausted the first 6 weeks, but now at 11wks I feel phenomenal most of the day and try to take advantage of my energy when I can by working out earlier in the day! I tend to lift/light cardio 3-4 days a week... With lots of stretching and usually a Pilates class. I also teach spin once a week.
I honestly kept telling myself to take the break and relax... And once I felt better to then get back on it, no excuses! You will too! It's a part of your lifestyle, it's only temporary. So give yourself some time to grow that placenta and baby, and cut yourself a mental break... In no time, you'll be all systems go! Xoxo!
  • You are not alone. I too have been super unmotivated to go to the gym. Ive tried many things to syke myself up, like write it down on my calendar or put my gym gear in the bag the night before. But then I think about how cold it is outside and how I might get nausea while Im there and change my mind. The plan is to go at least 2-3 times a week but Ive been going 1 to no times a week.

I just made it to my second trimester this week and have been seeing a change in energy and less nausea so Im planning to pick things up this week! Things will get better. Hang in there.
  • An idea that might make a difference:

Make a new playlist! I don't update my music very often, but when I do, I notice a huge difference in my motivation and energy at the gym. Since we can't control how exhausted pregnancy makes us, we might as well try to control other factors. Find some music that makes your booty shake and head to the gym! :)
