Has anyone delivered twins vaginally?

Hello all, I am a first time mom expecting twins and would like to deliver vaginally if I can do so safely. I realize that many factors determining that are beyond my control (position, heart rates, complications), but am hoping it's feasible. Have any of you done it? I would love to hear your stories if so. Thanks!

Re: Has anyone delivered twins vaginally?

  • I haven't personally, but my coworker did. One night a week or two before she went into labour, she had terrible pains in her abdomen/rib area. She went to the doctor the next day and he told her it was likely caused by one of the twins switching positions, so that her head was down, readying for delivery. So I believe that both her babies were head down and ready to go when she delivered. She delivered them both vaginally, and they both were over 6 lbs!

So yes, it is possible in some cases. Good luck :)

  • I'm expecting twins too & hoping the same thing! My cousin carried twins to 38 weeks and delivered them no problem! My best friend had twins at 36 weeks and one came out but the other baby's cord prolapsed and they did a quick c-section and got her out. Both babies are perfectly healthy but you just never know how delivery will go. I really don't want a c-section!!!
  • My cousins wife had one twin naturally, the other one needed to be c sectioned due to loss of heart rate, twin #2 only made it to 10 months old and passed, he has problems before birth ! But other then that both would have been able to be born naturally !
  • My friend had her twins vaginally at 38 weeks. She went into labor naturally and delivered her boys with no issues.

  • My friend delivered twins (she was 39 weeks, 5 days) vaginally without any pain medication! One baby was over 7 pounds, the other 6.5 pounds. She is a great inspiration. So yes, it is possible!
  • I have not but my friend did. She had twins with her first pregnancy and then a single baby with her second pregnancy. I believe the twins were very close to 6 lbs at birth, and her single birth was closer to 9 lbs. She said that unequivocally, the twin birth was less painful than the single birth. I think the whole rest of the pregnancy with twins was tougher for her overall, but the labor and delivery sounds like it went much better than she could have anticipated! It sounds like the greatest challenge might be positioning and other factors you mentioned. I'm sure you'll do great!

  • I did! Baby A was head down and baby B was transverse. My boys are 5 min apart and it was a great experience! I carried them to 35.5 and they were both over 5lbs when they were born :)

  • I don't have personal experience, but my friend just delivered twins vaginally with no complications, so it's definitely possible!
  • My grandma and my aunt both delivered twins vaginally just fine
  • Wonderful! Thank you all :) I also fear delivering one vaginally and then having a c section for the second. I can't imagine a double recovery... Either way it will be worth it :) Thanks for all the inspiration!
  • Go on YouTube and search GabeandJesss yes 3 s' she is awesome. She has a video of her twin sons being vaginally delivered. Now the doctor did have to literally go all the way in there to make sure the second baby was head down but it's a great video. Very inspiring. Let me know what you think.
  • Thank you! I will check out the videos after work.
