Re: Unique names - without the hate

  • Look in fiction, books, video games, comics, television.
  • Loading the player...
  • Nameberry.com is a really good website too! It has a lot of cute names on there. We have finally settled on the boy name Axel Ronan and I found both of those names on there. Our girl name is Adley Raine. I also love Ainsley for a girl! There are some cute ones that are not over the top crazy on celebrity baby names too!
  • There are lots of names in risk of becoming extinct. Maybe google search that for some ideas.
  • Kane, Trace, Van, Alister, Penn, Ario, Myles, Dane, Luka, Gian...pronounced GEE-AN (not sure how to spell that one, one of my co workers named his son that)

Hope this helps! I'm pretty sure we'll be going with Van Michael or Trace Michael (SO is Michael)
  • Caliden!! Love it call him Cal
  • Zarik for a boy....love it
  • Sports players too! My hubby and I have a special one reserved for a boy, inspired with a twist after an international soccer player. I'm really hoping we get to use it!

Silent Film stars. Some of the names are old enough to have fallen out of fashion, so they can sound unique and sometimes exotic now. I'm trying to convince my husband that if we have a girl she should be named Theda.
  • babynamewizard.com has a search function and you can set parameters like uncommon, rare, or highly unusual names. It's really fun to play with.

  • Felix. We have that on our list. It's strong, unique and Felix the cat is "old" enough to where he really shouldn't get picked on

I really like the name Tyla. It's my grandmother's maiden name. DH isn't a fan, so we are going with something we can both agree on.
I always like the idea of calling our little girl Ty
Also, the Gaelic translation means family.
  • Felix. We have that on our list. It's strong, unique and Felix the cat is "old" enough to where he really shouldn't get picked on

Our boy name is also Felix but it's after my husbands grandfather not the cat lol.

  • I just got off the phone with my dad who's from the UK and he reminded me of his aunt growing up was named Patience. I think that is a really beautiful girls name
  • Axel is our only boy name but my husband doesn't LOVE it so we will keep searching. I love it!
  • Our first son is Barrett, for short we call him "Bear." We always get so many compliments! I was actually surprised, I thought people wouldn't care for it.
  • My boyfriend loves Enzo for a boy but I'm not too sure :/
  • My god child is named Enzo and I wasn't sure at first but now I love it, his younger brother is called Arlo which is cute too.
  • I would love to name a boy James

My son's name is Asher. It's unique but not unheard of. I've been looking at boy and girl names with this baby but I keep getting stuck on the common ones for some reason. Not that common is a bad thing... I like the idea of unique names but I just haven't found any yet that feel right. I may do something like "Emily Ziya *lastname*" and put the unique name in the middle. I've lived though years of people screwing up my first and last name constantly and it can be really frustrating. I know quite a few friends that like going by their middle names so I figure it will be up to my kid in the end.

Mine isn't after the cat either. I really like Felix. Very unique.
  • Brand names are sometimes intersting...

    Heinz
    Remington
  • I love the name Truitt (true-it) for a boy.
  • I like that name truitt.
  • My husband and I decided on the name Dodge years ago. My MIL absolutely hates it.. good thing it's not her baby ;)
  • Dodge is my maiden name lol so can't use that one haha
  • I have a few friends that have used there maiden name as there child's name. I think it's a unique way to pass on your name. Just a thought.
  • Yea I really don't like my family so I was happy to shake the name
