Any good remedies for blocked duct? I have taken my lo to doctors but they say it will just go away by his 1st birthday
Is the blocked duct hurting the baby? If you doctor said not to worry about it and didn't give you remedies....then why are you seeking out remedies contrary to doctor instructions?
We have the same thing, pretty much since he was born. My doctor told me to massage the corner between his eye and nose, which I do while he nurses. He also told me it should go away by his first birthday and that it doesn't require treatment. Another doctor gave us antibiotic gel at his 3 day appt because there was much discharge he couldn't open his eye. Still constant tearing and discharge so I wash his eye with warm water several times a day. If I don't the skin in the outer corner of his eye gets red and irritated. So, yeah, I'd love to see it go away sooner! His grandparents always freak out over it.
Not sure if you breastfeed and I know it sounds crazy but my LO had matted eyes in both eyes and putting a little breastmilk in his eyes (in my opinion) helped! The doctor told me it wouldn't work, but it went away a day or so after I did it. May have just been a coincidence though...
Still wouldn't hurt to try if you can. If nothing else you know it's perfectly safe for them!
Warm compresses and wiping from the corner out toward the nose helps. I have also soaked a washcloth with warm chamomile tea and done the compress. I found just warm water will do the trick.
My boy had a clogged duct when he was three or four days old. The dr prescribed erythromycin ointment and told us to gently massage the duct with a warm cloth or q-tip. I never used the ointment, instead I used breast milk and by the next day it was cleared up. No issues since!
It took my middle child almost a year for it to clear up and that was with using massage and antibiotic ointments. It was pretty severe. This baby has one too but so far it's not nearly as bad. I would say it's 80% on the mend and I've not done a thing to it. Give it a bit more time. It can be gross but it's not an issue until they are over one year old usually.
My son had them until he was about 8 weeks - warm compresses, constantly wiping his eyes with warm wet cotton balls, and yes, squirts of breastmilk! Lol
But, time will heal all... if it isn't clear by a year, the pediatrician will give you a referral for someone who can open it up. I think the worst part is how congested they are because all the fluid drains into their nasal passage. No fun.
My little guy's tear duct opened up right around 2 months. Good luck.
