VENT: I'm done with this whole baby shower thing.....

So my shower is tomorrow and the host just got a phone call that people are backing out after they already said yes, and she gave he venue the head count, so now the host has to pay for people that aren't there. A bunch of people didn't even bother to RSVP, people are bitching that the weather isn't going to be good tomorrow, when this is the last possible week for the shower as next week is Easter, the following week is school vacation and then that would put me 2 1/2 weeks from my due date. I'm already 5 weeks away. At this point I wish I wasn't even having a shower. All the aggression this is putting on my host. It doesn't feel like it's worth it.

    People who make it a priority will be there regardless of if the weather is bad or whatever. Also remember that people will RSVP and still fail to show up.

    There really is no reason for you to stress about it. You have no control over guests.

    Hopefully things will turn out better than you will expect, the sun will be shining and people will show up. Try to enjoy it.

    I'm sorry!!! I said no to all my shower offers for that very reason. Don't let it get to you. This is a happy time and im sure it will all come together for you!!

    A couple of people have had to back out of mine after saying they'd be there too, but they have good reasons, so I'm trying not to take it personally. My best friend from college was even going to come stay with us for the whole weekend along with her husband and their baby but then her husband unexpectedly needed surgery, so now my best friend won't even be there. You can't control things like that. Luckily, mine isn't at a venue or anything so the only difference is how many snacks will be left over. I know it's frustrating, but just try to enjoy it with whoever is able to make it. I just keep thinking it means I'll get more one-on-one time with the people who are able to make it. :)

    Try not to stress about it too much.  While it's really frustrating, this is VERY typical for any kind of event planning.  I've hosted a lot of showers, and this kind of stuff always happens.  Just take a deep breath, roll with whatever happens tomorrow and enjoy!

    This happened to me too. I had a bunch of people back out literally the night before, but then other people I didn't know we're going to make it came. My nice even drove down from Tenessee! It ended up totally working out. :D

    Thank you everyone. I woke up to snow on the ground. I can't win. Part of the problem is that my host called me up last night complaining about the shower to me. I'm also sick and don't want to tell the host because she's put so much into this shower for me. I completely appreciate it, but the combination of it all isn't helping.

    My shower is today also, and I also have snow on the ground wtf! But like others have said, those that matter will be there and you will enjoy yourself. The host really shouldn't be complaining to you. I'm sure some of this has been a pain for my sister and mom but I haven't heard any of it. Try to relax and enjoy today!!

    My shower is today too. I wouldn't worry too much... You will be surrounded by friends and family that love you and want to celebrate baby with you (: the people that can't come are just missing out !

    Thanks. There's more to the story of what we've been dealing with and what's going on. I don't want to go into it, as it is private and personal to my family, but the last 2 weeks have not been easy.....they've been down right scary. In the grand scheme of things my shower is nothing and trivial, it's just we were all hoping that it would be a happy, fun, stress-free day. I also thought I was going into pre-term labor last night, so you know......
