measles

This is a question really I'm up to date with my injections so thought my baby was protected from measles through me but my midwife said I need another injection. Only worrie dad a child in my son's school has it. Any idea if I'm correct or if midwife is correct?

Re: measles

  • My doctor did the normal blood panel in my early pregnancy and it showed that i am not fully covered from an immunity perspective. So when I am in the hospital I need another MMR. It made sense to me, but I am pro-vaccines, I just had the TB whooping cough shot when in the office last week, my arm is still sore! Good luck!

  • Even though you received your MMR previously- you can become Rubella non-immune over time and require an additional dose after the baby is born. You can not get the vaccine during pregnancy because it is a live attenuated vaccine, and theoretically you could give the rubella infection to the baby.
After delivery you can request a blood draw for antibodies and know for sure whether you need the vaccine again.
