Inconsiderate people

i wanted to share what happened to me yesterday during my pedicure. I sit down to get my pedicure with a girl I've been going to for years and as I sit down I was told by her I look huge. Am I eating too much. What happened? Keep in mind this is a mother of 3 herself. I was so appalled I couldn't react. Another woman next to me looked over at me and I could have sank into the chair. I held back the tears and said my doctor said I'm gaining the same amount as my last pregnancy and said I'm fine. Just wanted to share how rude and inconsiderate other mothers could be. So let's try to be nice to everyone we encounter!!

Re: Inconsiderate people

  • I'm sorry! I would be finding a manicurist.

My Dads best friend (who was already a jerk before)...said something awful to me. I was 38 weeks pregnant WITH twins and I sat down on his couch. And he made a comment about if I was going to break it. I kept the tears back for about 5 minutes and then let it all out. My boys are 4.5 yrs old and I have seen him maybe twice since than!

  • I would be finding a new nail salon! How rude. I'm sorry.
  • People all the time either tell me i am too big or too small for 27 wks. But what broke me is when i saw my dad (which isnt often) and we went to dinner and were seated at a booth and he said 'i think youre too big to fit are you sure you can squeeze in there idk but i just think youre too big' i lost it
  • OMG! So freaking rude! There is another girl I work with who was 24 weeks yesterday and I'll be 27 tomorrow. Another lady in our office who has 2 grown children felt like she needed to tell me how much bigger I am than the other girl. She's having a girl and I'm having a boy and my coworker said I'm going to have a huge boy and she's going to have a tiny girl. She asked me if the dr had said how much baby weighs and I told her he's been measuring right on track. I'm not that big, I've only gained about 23 pounds which my doc says is perfect for my frame and height. I'm constantly surprised by other women, especially mothers making rude comments.
  • How rude! Why would she ever feel she has the right to talk to her customers that way? Any of them? My gosh, it's none of her business anyway...I would have stood right up and walked out the door, and I'd be filing a complaint as well. How horrible.
  • Some people have no filter! Wtf is wrong with people? I just had my uncle tell me I look like Santa Clause. Um...thanks?! I wasn't even wearing red! Another mom friend of a two yr old said "oh my gosh you're huge!" Maybe pregnant women release some sort of pheromone that makes people say dumb shit. That's the only reasonable explanation.
  • That's just a complete WTF moment.
    Coffee Bean Born 6/13/15.
    2nd round exp 8/20/18.
    Meow.
  • I'm so sorry you had to deal with that! I had a similar thing also happen at the nail salon. I'm not sure if the girl knew I was pregnant or not but she had mentioned how dry my hands were since the last time I seen her. I told her I had started doing the dishes by hand because the spots from the dishwasher were driving me crazy. She then asked me if I was sure that was the reason and proceeded to tell me that maybe it was because I have "gotten fat". Just smiled and pretended that I was not offended even though I was and told her no I'm sure it's from the dishes. I'm still not sure if she knows I'm pregnant or just thought I was gaining weight. Either way I feel great at this point of my pregnancy I am 26 weeks along and have gained a total of 15 pounds which my doctor seems to think is fine and I don't have a problem with it. Some people are idiots!!!!
  • Not meant to be ride but my own father (who just 6 months ago on my birthday went on and on about how I will always be his sweet little baby girl) called me OLD yesterday in reference to my GD and other pregnancy related issues. Just rolled off his tongue super easily.
  • And it can go both ways. I was asked the other day if I'm eating. Seriously?? A ton and my midwife thinks I'm doing great. Thanks for your concern.
  • So I read this post earlier today and thought god I'm glad no one has said anything inconsiderate towards me or id break down. Well then I guess I should have knocked on wood because I went to work and the new cook asked my boss if I was pregnant or just fat. Seriously.
  • People need to learn manners! I was doing a blowout on a client the other day and she asked if I was having twins! I almost slapped her the with hairbrush. This was after she rolled into her appointment 15 min late.
  • It's the women who already have children that blow my mind the most, do they not remember what it's like to be pregnant? Some people just have no manners.
  • I would have been rude right back. " am I paying you to look at my belly or my feet? " smh
  • When people comment on my size I say the same thing every time "well, I'm not getting any smaller, that's for sure." Then I walk away.
  • I get the whole when are you due question and when I say June 3rd they just look at me and say oh. Wow. Thanks. Lol. My director keeps looking me up and down in disgust. I just want to tell her to go eat s cupcake and leave me alone.

  • I really think that mothers easily forget the trials and tribulations of what pregnancy is like and even as their baby gets older they so easily forget all the stuff that you go through as a new mom. This is so rude! Yesterday at work everyone commented to me wow when are you done work, etc. I'm 30 weeks, hopefully a while to go yet people! One coworker even commented how because i was short, it was obvious there was no where for the baby to grow. Ugh!!

  • My own mother favorite thing to say to me lately is "wow you look pregnant". I am due June 2nd so nah sh## I look pregnant, the baby is growing taller and bigger so it's got to go somewhere. Try to take everything with a grain of salt and if need be walk away.
  • Yea. A woman at work said "almost over huh?" Thinking I was towards the end of my pregnancy. Yea. Only 27 weeks. Told her "yea close to starting my third trimester". :-@
  • My twin sister and I are both pregnant and she went to go cancel her tanning subscription and the lady asked her why and my sister told her it was because she was pregnant and the lady said "All you girls are getting pregnant, and look I don't even see a ring on your finger" like excuse me, it's none of your business and that was extremely rude. She doesn't even know what her situation is.
  • I mostly tend to attribute rude comments to the person making the statement, rather than it really having anything to do with me. Either I try to give people the benefit of the doubt (men, fathers, etc) for not having experienced pregnancy... Women for forgetting what it's like... Or sometimes I just think women are catty because they are jealous. Not in a direct sense all the time (not like they want to be pregnant or want my life), but more that it links back to something about themselves they are uncomfortable with. Unhappy people find it hard to be happy for others.

If people give thoughtful, genuine feedback, that is a different story. But mostly I find people are too wrapped up in their own $h*t to pay attention to the impact their words have. I don't waste my time on those comments - I laugh or have a sharp comeback to call them out on their crap.

Pregnancy is hard. Hormones and whatever else make us feel so vulnerable. I'm sorry she was so rude to you. If you do end up going back, be prepared with a sharp comeback when she pulls that crap again.

  • Seriously there is nothing more irritating then people telling us we're huge. Like we don't even notice the fact that our bodies have been completely taking over by the baby. My grandmother just last night at dinner says "oh there's the fat one" . I really wanted to say hey wrinkles, how are your dentures treating you lol
  • For the last month every time I see or talk to my MIL on the phone (which is multiple times per week) she finds a way to mention how big I am. Her favorite has been, "wow, I don't think you were even this big at the very end of your pregnancies with the girls!" Ugh, yeah I was quite a bit bigger than this actually! I'm 28 weeks now and have gained less than 15lbs. I did start this pregnancy about 10lbs heavier than my starting weight with the girls but come on! So rude. After my OB appt last week she said "so, did your doc tell you you'll probably deliver a month early because you're already so big?" Ummmm ... NO! Wtf.

Ahhh, venting that feels good ;)
  • I think it's just as annoying when my friends go out of their way to bring up the weight topic and say things like "you haven't gained weight in your face at all!" I've gained 35 pounds at 29 weeks and you can bet that a little of it is everywhere, including my face. I know it, you know it, so don't bother trying to lie about it! The other one is "Oh don't worry you'll lose it all right away." No I probably won't, that's not how my body works, but I actually wasn't worried--so shut up.
  • I had someone at work try to tell me that I must be having twins even AFTER I was like "nope - 3 out of 3 ultrasounds show that there is only one baby in there..." Her argument was that "sometimes" one baby is hiding behind the other and then even the doctors are surprised when the mom delivers two babies. Umm, even if that has actually ever happened in this day and age, which i doubt, thanks for telling me that I'm so massive that I must be one of those rare women whose ultrasounds don't show Baby #2 because there is no way in hell that my midsection could be this large from only one baby.
  • Sounds like someone didn't want a tip!!!
