Rant - Know it alls...who don't know it all

I work with a girl who is pregnant and due in early May.  She and I are not friends but we have worked together for 10 years so we are friendly.  She was asking me the other day how I was feeling, if I had felt the baby etc.  I said "well I think I have felt him but I have an anterior placenta so the doctor says it will take longer to feel distinct movements".  She looks at me and says "oh that sucks you are going to have to go on bed rest" I told her that anterior placenta does not cause any issues, my doctor described it as the difference between being right and left handed.  One is less common but no more risky than the other.  She told me that her friend had an anterior placenta and had to go on bed rest really early because of it.  I asked if her friend had placental abruption or something like that because the bed rest was probably caused by something else and the anterior placenta was just a coincidence.  She seriously continued to argue with me that my baby is in danger and that I should find another doctor...WTF.  Fortunately I did a lot of research in addition to asking my doctor a ton of questions and know that she is wrong but seriously who says that to a pregnant woman? Like there isn't enough to worry about when you are pregnant.

  • Ugh, that would annoy me too, and you are absolutely correct, she has no clue what she is talking about! I had that with my first and had NO issues what-so-ever. I definitely did not go on bed rest, I worked right up until the day before he was born and was admitted to the hospital on my due date.

  • Yep, unfortunately get ready for more of this. I call these women "sacti-mommies" because they feel like they know EVERYTHING pregnancy/baby related and their way is always the *right* way. I'm still getting used to it. It drives me nuts.

  • I have one sitting across the hall from me right now....she drives me fucking nuts!
  • Frustrating!!! I find it difficult not to throat-punch those kind of twatwaffles!

Do you think she thought it was placenta previa maybe?

Yeah, I had an anterior placenta with my first, and the OB reading my u/s said "A perfectly good place for the placenta to be" - I'm pretty sure she's talking about placenta previa :)
  • I asked about previa and abruption (thinking they both start with a maybe she was confused) but nope she just kept arguing. Ugh just drives me crazy.

Not just women... I'm a bartender and EVERY regular thinks they know exactly what I should do and shouldn't do. Even so much as telling me I HAD to wear maternity clothes if I didn't want stretch marks.... I'm about to sucker punch a fool. I had some one the other other day ask if I knew the gender yet... When I told them the u/s date they responded with "oh you don't want to know the gender!!!!" Uhm. Pretty sure I do buddy. I've literally walked away in the middle of people's sentences and even told a guy "when you carry a baby in your ****ing stomache then you can tell me all ****ing about it." Im surprised I haven't gotten in trouble yet. Lol
  • I cant stand when people are like " shouldnt you be showing already ? " im so tempted to tell them read up on it before you act like you know everything thats pregnancy related . it makes me angry because if its your first then you dont show right away . so its definitelyhard to deal with those know it alls
