whens your first ultrasound . ?

I had an ultrasound for proof of pregnancy to go to my ob and my ob isn't doing an ultra sound for the first time until 19 - 20 weeks . Is that normal . ?

Re: whens your first ultrasound . ?

  • The first and only ultrasound I am "offered" is at 20 weeks. I always decline it because insurance does not cover elective ultrasounds and I don't want to know the gender anyway. 20 weeks is very standard unless you are high risk or have an ultrasound-happy doctor. ;)
    It's a boy! Born 42 weeks, 2 days.

  • I've had 2 already but only due to bleeding early on. The norm (for most people in Canada, unless your high risk or have a Dr that likes ultrasounds) is between 18-22 weeks. I know a lot of people that have only had 1 ultrasound throughout their pregnancy

  • Okay , thank you . I was worries because I was reading about how you are suppose to get a 12 week ultrasound and I was at my ob Dr on Thursday and she did no ultrasound and told me not till the 19 - 20 week mark . I was upset because I wanna see my precious baby again .
  • Take it as a good sign that everything is going well and that your not high risk in anyway! As much as it's nice to see your baby to confirm that, take comfort in knowing they aren't worried about you! When you do get to see that baby it'll look just like a baby and will be totally worth the wait!

  • Thank you . And im just so worried an anxious about everything this is my first . And I have my pregnancy fear about something going on in there and crazy dreams about miscarriage so it makes me crazy when I go to the Dr and want a ultrasound . I do hear the heart beat and that put my mind at ease alot . But Im ganna start looking at the up side and how it means im healthy and so is my baby . Thank you mamas for your support .
  • Most insurance won't cover earlier US because they are not medically necessary. I am however getting one at just over 10 weeks because my Dr offers it and my insurance happens to cover it.
  • Wow, that seems so late! I had my first one at 9 weeks.
