April 2015 Moms

Dr.'s don't know my due date!!!

To get pregnant with this baby (my husband and I were trying) I was charting my cycle and even taking ovulation tests. I could tell the doctor to the day when I concieved and when my last period was. It took me a few weeks to show a positive on an at home pregnancy test but I had the same issue with my older daughter. My due date was april tenth. When I had my first ultrasound the baby's development was off by three weeks (baby was developing small and slow). The doctors were concerned I would miscarry (I have a history of miscarriage) but when I didn't they decided that they should push the due date back three weeks (April 28th). I measured at that for the rest of my pregnancy all up until yesterday, when my doctor measured me and then started freaking out (she called in two other doctors for their opinions) saying that since my last appointment (a month ago) baby has skyrocketed in growth! I am now measuring at forty weeks. (Two weeks before my original due date and five weeks before my adjusted due date)
She was very concerned about baby's size and development and wants me to have an ultrasound to check baby out. My us is scheduled for Tuesday (the soonest I could get in) but the doctor made a comment right before leaving the office that I can't go into labor before Tuesday because she won't know whether or not to let baby come naturally or stop my labor because she doesn't know if baby is developed or not. Anyone else go through this? I am terrified I will go into labor now!!!! I asked her to do a pelvic exam to see where I was but she said she was afraid it could cause labor... I'm super worried and confused and even partially mad at her for putting this pressure on me (not to go into labor) I mean what doctor says we don't know what to do with you and then leaves the room???

Re: Dr.'s don't know my due date!!!

  • I have never heard of something like this? It sounds like a very stressful situation! I hope everything goes okay at the ultrasound though!

  • Thanks I'm just super worked up!!! If I were to go into labor I feel like I would panic so badly now!!!
  • I'm sorry you're going through that! No doctor should ever put that pressure on a patient, but if she was truly concerned why wouldn't she have you do the ultrasound today? They can easily move the schedule around to accommodate an emergency situation like that. I do hope they figure it out and you get an answer soon!
  • @juliaandpatrick
I am at a large military hospital and that is honestly the earliest they can unless I was bleeding. The ob's don't have anything to do with ultrasound(this is what my ob said)
  • When reading that I was even going to ask if you're at a military hospital. That's exactly why. I absolutely refuse to go onto the hospital on base. Nothing but horrible experiences. I'm sorry I have nothing positive to say about military hospitals except they are idiots almost all of the time and im sorry you have to deal with them.
  • Yeah. It's a navy hospital which is usually better than army hospitals... But still crazy!!! (The army hospital told my husband and I that neither of us could have children this is our fourth pregnancy and will be our second child) @mnharkcom
  • @ashleylane66 yeah my experiences were from an army hospital. I'm so sorry they told you that but I'm glad you were able to have children :)

I have no advice but good luck with everything. It gets my blood boiling for your situation.
  • And I'm sorry about your other previous losses, I didn't read that part clearly
  • Omg!!! What the hell is wrong with that doctor?!!! Maybe putting yourself on a version of bedrest until Tuesday would be good?? Just so your not moving around too much.. Sending positive thoughts your way.. Good luck!!!
  • Military hospitals truly do suck, when I was pregnant with my 1st they never listened to me. My midwife literally came in and took over the delivery of my baby when she was practically out, and just walked out and I never saw her again. So this time I decided to get out of the army so I can have a better over all experience. I'm sorry they are doing that to you ): my baby is measuring small, I'm 39 weeks and they are telling me he's 5lbs and they are freaking out! So now they're scheduling an ultrasound asap.
  • Yeah I got out after my second pregnancy and am now a spouse. The hospital I was at then was over crowded and I was seeing a civilian provider who put me on bed rest. The military sent me to an army doctor to reevaluate me and then denied my bed rest. I ended up losing my daughter and then was sent back to work the following day. So yeah I didn't have the best experiences with being active duty and pregnant either.
  • Ok hopefully this can help calm your nerves... If you were to go into labor on your own, and head to L&D, they can do an US right there... It'll help them determine the state, weight, and overall development of your baby before making the decision to stall or continue the labor!

  • @cperkins6
I definitely didn't even think of that!!! So glad someone on the outside (who's not freaking out) could come up with something logical!!! Thankyou!!!
  • My sister had a really bad experience at a Navy hospital and I had bad experience at army hospital so when we found out I told dh I wanted to go to a civilian Dr so I switched to standard and you can do that until whenever you choose much nicer experience
