Baby not moving as much

I'm 38+4. I wanted to know if anyone feels like there baby is moving less around this time? I count her kicks but I can barely feel them.

Mine has actually picked up now since like 36wks and I'm 39 now. But every baby is different :) ask your doctor if you're worried always be safe to make sure it's ok!!

  • Here are a few tips if you notice a decrease in or absence of baby's movement:
    • Drink and eat something (preferably something with sugar in it).
    • Lie on your left side
    • Place your hands on either side of your belly and gently "move" your baby
    • Count how many times your baby moves in the next hour or two.
Usually, you will feel your baby moving around and breathe a sigh of relief. If you still feel very little movement (the baby moves once in two hours, for example) or not movement at all, you should contact your doctor immediately.

It could mean many things and most of them are nothing to panic about.

Most commonly, you have been moving around all day and although your baby has been moving too, you have been unaware of it. Sometimes babies have very long sleep cycles, lasting up to 90 minutes. If you are trying to do your kick counts during a sleep cycle, there won't be too much kicking. Sometimes babies are just resting and are lazy for lack of a better word.

In some situations, however, decreased fetal movement means that a fetus is not getting what she needs. Lower levels of amniotic fluid can cause less fetal movement. Fetuses that aren't getting enough oxygen, nutrients, or blood from the placenta often have decreased fetal movement.

Studies have shown that women often perceive decreased movement days before a fetal death. Obviously, this is a situation everyone wants to prevent. That's why you need to call your doctor pronto if you notice a sudden decrease in movement.
