39 weeks today and still no milk

I am a STM and I'm a little nervous. I am scheduled to have a c-section tomorrow and my milk supply has not come in. With my first, I started leaking around 6-7 months. I have read that some women's supply doesn't come in until after delivery. Has any STM or TTM experienced this with their supply?

  • I'm 38w5d and haven't started leaking either but I'm ftm sorry no other experience but I know it is normal
  •

no ones milk comes in before the baby is born.  its the actual hormones released during labor that trigger you to start producing milk.  You will only make colostreum for the first 1-2 days and then your milk comes in

Well that's what I mean. I have not been leaking any colostreum.
  • Mine didn't do anything until after my sons birth and this is holding true so far for this baby girl who is still cooking and I'm 39 weeks 3 days
  • FTM and I'm relieved to see I'm not the only one not leaking--now I know what to expect since my baby brain has me forgetting to ask my doctor at every appt.

  • I thought it didn't matter whether you leaked or not before delivery. Because once you deliver baby and placenta your body will ramp up to make milk a few days later.
FTM, I've been leaking since like month 5 -.- but i wouldn't worry too much OP!
  • I'm the same way! With my first I started leaking colostrum around 24 weeks and this time around I'm 37+6 days and I haven't started leaking yet. I'm kinda nervous about it all even though I know my milk will come in a few days after I have her.
  • Leaked with my son. This time, no leaking. Try expressing them in the shower and see if it happens.
  • Didn't leak with my first and am not leaking with this baby. I was able to successfully breastfeed for 13m with my first. No worries!

  • FTM. Not leaking and not worried. Worrying won't solve anything. I ordered samples of formula just in case I can't breastfeed or need to supplement.
  • When I had my first I never leaked. I was a bit clueless and didn't even know what colostrum was until the nurse showed me how to get some. I was like oh hey there! So I wouldn't worry that you don't have any yet.
  • Start playing with your nipples if you want it to come before the baby is born. I never leaked before during 1 and 2 but this time I started leaking at 33 weeks.
  • Same advice as pp... try expressing it during or immediately after a hot shower or bath. I bet you'll be surprised :) I never leaked with my first but when I tried to express it, it was there :) good luck. Breastfeeding is a commitment but so rewarding & liberating!
  • I breastfed 17 mos and never leaked with my daughter. Never. Not for those 17 months!!! I think it can be different woman to woman and from one pregnancy /breastfeeding relationship to the next.
  • Thank you ladies! Going in for my c-section this morning. Praying all goes well.
  • Yea nothing to worry about! TTM here didn't leak with any of mine! I can express a tiny bit in the shower or bath, but it's really nothing! Mine milk always comes in around day 3... I end up with more than baby can even eat! So don't let yourself get worked up

Everything will be fine... Keep us updated. Well wishes!
  • Colostrum is what you'll be feeding your baby before your milk comes in. My milk always comes in on day 3-4.
  • Your actual milk doesnt come in until your give birth and your body starts releasing the proper hormones. You may have leaked colostrum the first time. Im a STM and my milk isnt in but if i pump colostrum comes out. And not much because the baby isnt eating. So dont be discouraged!
  • FTM due April 24th. I delivered preterm at 32.2 weeks (march 1st). My milk never came in. They said it could be from prematurity or stress, but I never made milk.
  • I'm 36 weeks and leak about twice a day. Nice to know i'm not the only one! :bz
  • I never leaked during any of my pregnancies nor was I able to express anything and I breastfed both of them for 18 months.
My advise to you would be as soon as little one is born get him on the breast and have a good feed ( cause after they tend to go into a sleepy phase)and make sure you are attempting feeds every 3 hours with tons of skin to skin.
Seek out a lactation consult as soon as available for a "latch assist and positioning" and then again around 24 hours of life when babies tend to start getting hungry. The nurses will weigh little one every day to make sure weight loss is appropriate.
Please drink tons of water, eat well, and rest when baby does- keep visitors to a minimum and do lots of positive self talk- breastfeeding is one of the most personal/ emotional aspects after having a baby.
