Bathroom issues... :-/

anyone have any recommendations for helping constipation. I'm having a terrible time with it and going to the bathroom hurts. My doctor recommended Metamucil which I've been taking along with eating activia but the last few days nothing seems to be working lately. I haven't heard back from my doctor yet but wanted to see if anyone had any luck with anything else! This isn't fun and hurts... Lol. Thanks ladies!

  • Are get getting plenty of water, too? Maybe try some prune juice. I've heard some people mention kiwi on previous posts. Good luck!

  • My doctor said you could take colace. I picked some up but haven't tried it yet. I am only going to take it if it gets really bad. But you can try that.
  • I've been drinking a ton of water and spacing out plenty of fibrous fruits throughout the day. I have blackberries every day and I swear it has helped. Either that or I coincidentally started eating them as the constipation eased up. Good luck! this has been one of the most frustrating things of my pregnancy too!
  • Natural calm works wonders. It also helps mood, sleep and body aches. I swear by it.
  • I am with you. I made a special grocery run yesterday - focused on high fiber foods. Fiber One cereal, apples, oranges, kiwi, prune juice, apple juice, yogurt. I made chili last night for dinner (beans). I am already starting to feel a bit better today. Of course keep up on the water too, but I have been doing that. I am trying to work these foods in throughout the day.
  • I had the same issues...My husband bought me Sugar Free Gummy Bears....eat about 4 or 5 of those and your golden.  They are not made with Saccharine to make them sugar free...its made with sugar alcohols which is safer.  try them it worked for me.  Also A LOT of water...yeah you pee all the time but it works.
  • Whatever you do don't take Dulcolax or any other stimulant laxative. Your intestines will cramp up so badly, if you've never been through labor, you get a taste of it with that crap. It did its job but at what cost? Try stool softeners first.

  • Colace is what my doctor recommends. Make sure it's just Colace not Peri-colace. Anything with a stimulate is not recommended. I had some serious constipation last week and I've been taking two colace at night at bed time and increasing my raw veggie intake as well as drinking some decaf in the morning to get things going. It is really working for me. Constipation is miserable. Good luck!

  • constipation/straining is my middle name. it is the WORST...colace & natural calm seem to help somewhat for me, in addition to drinking a ton of water each day...however, i do suffer from this pretty bad,

Me too! I started taking Philips milk of magnesia and it helps so much!
  • I did prune juice... Whoooo I felt much better... Just hold your nose and drink away plus it provides Iron too!
  • My ob recommended Miralax.
  • I started drinking lemon juice in warm water and that has helped quite a bit with the gas, bloating and constipation. I'm hitting the hard stuff (prune juice) this weekend!!
  • I have been drinking freshly juiced juices and it has helped so much!!! It also has kept me healthy while my family all has had a cold for the last two weeks. Lol I usually pick the green juices because I don't like all the sugars that the ones made with lots of fruit have. they give me the jitters for some reason but I am sure a yummier sweeter juice mix would still do the trick. :)
  • All the water and fruit you can eat, my trick is mini wheats! They have been helping a lot!
  • I am happy to report much improved since yesterday ! The high fiber foods are working!
  • Lots of fresh fruit! I eat cantaloupe and grapes a lot I crave them and now my problem of constipation is now a problem of non stop bms lol
  • Sounds worse than it is- but half prune juice, half apple juice. Warmed up. (Like tea). Add a teaspoon of melted butter and dose of milk of mag if you are really backed up. Works like a charm, I give it to my patients all the time if they are having issues. Again, sounds worse than it really is....
  • Thanks ladies! I went to the store and bought some of the things you all recommended!

Try taking a teaspoon of coconut oil a day. (Make sure it's extra virgin and organic). It works wonders for digestion and bowl movements! I found that taking it with a cup of almond milk or even coconut milk helps it go down. Coconut oil is just an all around super food. It's also great for your immunity and you can continue taking it for maximal breast milk production ☺️ good luck!!
