Eye Contact from a Distance

Hello Ladies, hope all bumpies are enjoying their D14 babies! I'm asking this for comparison purposes, I am going to ask the doc at my DS's next appointment. Ok, so, my LO has phenomenal eye contact when I lay him down, he's being held by someone else, or when he sees me from across the room; he smiles and laughs and recognizes my voice. However, when being held, he does not like looking at the person who is holding him close up. It's like he is jockeying his head to look at something farther away. So then I (or someone else) hands him over or puts him down and moves away, boom, he's looking right in your eyes and smiles. He's tracking things well, grabs at toys, and other milestones are being met. Experience?

  • Very common.  You are familioar while others are not, therefore it's a lot of stimulation and newness to absorb.  Infants look away so as not to be overwhelmed
